    If you had $500,000 USD to invest.. where would you do it?

    Im looking at something relatively safe.. right now im using a term deposit that pays 4.8%.. but after doing some research i found out i can get as high as 6.2% ish (for example in the bank of scotland)

    Anyone have some other recommendations?

          Actually, thats a good call on your part. I was looking at the same Bank of Scotland deposits as you. 6.2% is very competitive and its the best ive seen.

          Then again, they pay not far shy of 6% for instant access savings accounts too.

              i would invest $500,000 into munitions and fund my own lil revolutionary army and overthrow some 3rd world country government.

              once in power I would rape the country of its natural and labor resources and make big bank exporting their goods. when I ran the country dry of resources I would move on to another country and loop.

              each time building a larger army with more funds and supplies.

              global takeover. money controls everything.

                                      Jim Kramer was talking about some really safe, fast growing investments a month ago. The top 5 were:

                                      1. canada -- banks and such

                                      2. Brazil

                                      3. Seeds - soy, etc..it's going to to be major in the next few years.

                                      4. Video game companies -- EA, Activision, etc (he said vid games are just blowing up right now, with no sign of stopping). I wish I would've put some money into Activsion before they merged with Blur.

                                          2: Yes Brazilian coffee is a good one
                                          3: I doubt that, Argentina rules the soy market...almost all genetic manipulated soy comes from Argetina....doesn't need any farming.....seed and harvest....

Unless you are experienced investor, you can earn money anyway. He wants a "safe" way to invest. Stocks are not safe with no knowledge.

                                                                          Oh, my suggestion: play with earnings report on strong companies (which will beat estimates). So you can make like 10% per day, then just leave that stock and go find another one.

                                                                                              If you're putting it in the Bank of Scotland with an interest rate of 6.2%, I assume your balance will be in GBP? Consider what you will spend on protecting yourself against currency losses (GBP is now a weak currency).

Obviously, the stock market - let alone an individual stock, do not qualify as a safe investment, but this particular stock is where I would go with that 500k. And I wouldn't even be nervous.
                                                                                                                          Once you double or triple up (within the next year or two) then you put 1M in the bank of scotland and keep 500k to really spread around in the stock market.
