i work out about 3 or 4 times a week. i'm not trying to look like a huge bodybuilder. i just like to stay in shape and i enjoy going the the gym. it give you a lot more energy and makes you feel good about yourself anyways. i dont take any supplements except for protein and multivitimins. creatine is not only bad in the ways cdsmit described, but it also filters through either your kidney or liver... so when you take creatine it puts that much more of a strain on it. after creatine has been around for a long time they will probably start realizing the damage it causes.

seaweedtramp 10-02-2002 11:54 AM

i'm a girl. last year i went to the gym a lot. this year i may have worked out once at the gym. i figure walking to and from work and having sex counts as exercise. although i just changed jobs so i don't walk to work anymore. i guess i'm not fit, but there's not enough fat on me for me to look fat. 5ft 2, 100 pounds?

twinkley 10-02-2002 11:55 AM

I have to agree with Dr. Guile on this one...

By looking at this thread you would think that webmasters are some buff muthafuckas. In reality (at least, from the ones I have met at shows and the such) we are a good sampling from each catagory - fit, average, and "good god man (or woman), get outta that chair once in a while"

I used to be in the "good god" catagory when I started in the industry..... now I am average (i walk/rollerblade/ice skate occ. and work out twice a week)

By January I am hoping to be in the fit/smokin hottie catagory....

Hey! Miracles can happen! hahahahaha

Once it gets here I'll be on my bike daily, probably hitting 60k a day uphill, downhill, etc. Looking for a gym in my area and I have the biggest swimming pool in the world right outside my back door, doing laps across English Bay! I've managed to lose 15 pounds of flab in the past month just by giving up on eating CRAP food. Amazing what not mixing carbs and protein can do for you! ASAP I'll be back on protein & creatine supplements. Designer Protein & CreX-12 are what I use, what about you guys?

salsbury 10-02-2002 12:17 PM

my exercise consists of sex (not enough lately but getting better) and walking to/from the bus. i might start biking around again, dunno. i'm in pretty ok shape - i've finally gained enough weight to be "normal" and i've settled in at 150-160lbs (5'7").

i'm happy enough with my body. i could stand to lose a bit around the belly and get some more muscle, but all in due time.

the thing that keeps me from dedicating blocks of time to it on a regular basis is i just don't have the time for it. i would need to get up around 6AM to do it in the morning (not gonna happen) and after work i have about an hour+ commute.

i used to work out with a co-worker every other day, but it's so hard to always wake up at 6AM to do it.. heh.

Where are you getting your "facts" from? Creatine has been around since the early 60's man! There are few muscle building suplements that have been researched and tested more than creatine has! This kind of rhetoric is the same kind of misinformation that makes people think smoking a joint is the same as smoking a half-pack of cigarettes. Of course if you abuse creatine it's going to cause damage to your body, the same as drinking too much alcohol, or even over-exercising!

If you've ever even so much as had a beer, don't presume to tell me about how creatine is going to hurt my liver. Creatine WORKS. Period. Taking a supplement like grapeseed extract will help scrub out your liver and repair any damage done by over-drinking or over-use of creatine. Please enlighten me and show me exactly where you got this information from. And don't tell me CDSmith, I want to see names, research and clinical studies, not just the word of one person. Hey, did you know eating Pop-Rocks with Coke will make your stomach explode? Some guy on TV said it so it must be true! I can quote about 30 years of research and my own experience, how about you?

FlyingIguana 10-02-2002 12:46 PM

take too much creatine at once and you get the shits. body just gets rid of it. all that nice white powder right into the can.

i've seen studies that said once creatine is in your body, it will stay for a couple months if you stop taking it. if you keep taking creatine, you just piss it out because your body doesn't want anymore. so i just use it 2 months on 2 off.

ibjem2 10-02-2002 03:17 PM

work out 3 days a week, vegetarian diet, no smoking, very light drinking and lots of GFY is all you need to achive nirvana

Slack 10-02-2002 04:39 PM

lifting weights 4 times a week and run 5 miles a day the other 3 days of the week....

beerbust03 10-02-2002 04:45 PM

I'm 30 but look a lot younger than that. Below helps alot:

Spin Class, 4 x per week. 2 x per week, I speed walk or run 6-8 miles, on the beautiful San Diego Harbor. Also weights helps, nothing too heavy, just a lot of reps. And laughing alot keeps me looking young. Low fat diet, watch my calorie and carb intake. Stopped drinking that helps. Lost 15 lbs altogether and feel great!

5'4 1/2, 125 pounds. Losing 5 more just for my own sake. I was up to 145 lbs about 2 months ago!

I didn't make myself clear

What I meant was sure using creatine can defo improve your performance, and is mostly used by "elite" athletes who may feel they cannot push themselves any further, but it can have some lasting effects on your body but this is only if you are using high amounts of creatine regularly.....

I am not saying it is bad and you shouldn't use it.......also i always like to mess with Metaform if you have seen some posts on www.videosboard.com then you will see that we always joe a lot........

I am not an expert in this I only did one year of college in Sports Coaching with Sports development and science but as I said I am not an expert and I may ty and find some of my old notes to back up what I have said......

Stay tuned!!!

I was taking creatine last year to put some weight on. I quite a few days into the loading phase, couldnt handle it. Gave me diareaha and cramps (no matter how much water I drank)

Now I trying to cut weight, lowering my calories, lowering my carbs, and upping my cardio workouts.

I do 140 situps a day. I also lift 10 pound weights for 120 reps. I split this in half -- IE. 70 and 60 twice a day morning and night.

I also take multivitamens.

chodadog 10-03-2002 01:40 AM

I've been shedding a few extra pounds the last few weeks. Some slight diet adjustments, and a little extra cardio work has helped. I think i'll go and train with my old soccer club when the season starts again. The training we used to do was fuckin' insane.

Actual matches seemed like a peace of piss compared to the two 2 hour training sessions every week.

you don't have to load. just take 5-10 grams a day depending on your bodyweight. it'll just take a month instead of a week to get the results from creatine.

I used to play a lot of sport and do Martial Arts for 3-4 hrs everyday.

I have started to use the total gym everyday.

I am doing 2 finger push-ups and working my way to developing the finger strength to do one finger push-ups.

I think fitness is infinite. How fit is too fit.

I think it is all about balance.

Also sex is a great conditioner and I need that at least twice a day.:winkwink:

That total gym looks good actually. I've never talked to anyone that's actually used one. Most of the exercise machines on infomercials are hype, but that one seems believable. How long have you used it and do you like it, recommend it, etc.?

beemk 10-03-2002 05:43 PM

yeah im sure alcohol is probably even worse for your liver than creatine is. i didnt do this research myself, im just saying what i read in a magazine. i've even tried creatine a long time ago before i did any research and it just made me shit my brains out. i see good enough gains working out without any supplements so i dont bother with any.

p.s. everybody already knows if you eat pop rocks while you drink coke that your stomach will explode

I think it rocks and I agree most of the stuff on infomercials seems like pure hype.

It belongs to my wife, I have used it for about 6 months.

Their is a lot greater range of movement than with free weights, promoting more flexzibility and I can progressively use a % of my own bodyweight in the exercises upto 60% of total bodyweight.

My wife swears by it.

Those pics were taken before total gym.

I do the 2 finger push-ups (soon to be 1 finger), have 7% body fat and after 20 years of Martial Arts training and competing at National sporting championships. She can still kick my ass.:thumbsup

and Lexxx I have done an all-nighter, so if you ment you are not fit yet, I can relate to that, that is why I still work out. I'll never be as fit as I want to be. lol

drumsicle 10-03-2002 09:01 PM

She looks good to me. Thanks for the info! I think I will invest in one one of these days. Just in case you weren't aware, I saw on the infomercial, that there is a way you can add free weights to it, if certain exercises require more than body weight.

beemk 10-03-2002 09:23 PM

how come you want to do 1 finger pushups firehorse? why would you want strong fingers?
