15% of all goods sold in the UK are now bought online

Thats a pretty impressive statistic - Xmas online spending was up a massive 50% over last year.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7193714.stm

In the build up to Xmas the spend was about $30 billion.

Actually I just heard yesterday that our national postal service has had a big increase in revenue from people buying goods online but I forget the actually numbers. 15% is a big share and bricks and mortar business must be really feeling that.

I bet if they broke it down by age groups it would be a lot larger a percentage for those bought by people under 45. Most people I know here would much rather not set foot in a shop unless they are forced to do it. Heck, I am sitting here waiting for the groceries I ordered from the internet to arrive.

I used to love Ocado when I was in the UK - its the best thing ever!

The secret is to miss a week and use Tesco instead and they send you a $30 email voucher off your next order.....

I used to use the $30 to buy myself a special treat like a really nice wine or something.

You'd think that the increased revenue for the Royal Mail would enable them to sort their shit out..

I use Tesco because it is cheaper but still have good things and it adds up because I cook from scratch most nights. I have been using them since pretty much right after they started doing the online shopping in like 2001. There have been pretty much no problems. If you don't order from Tescos for like a month they start offering you deals too. We had our lift being fixed in the fall and it took two months and I couldn't ask them to deliver up stairs. By the end of the repair they were sending me emails pretty much begging me to shop with them again.

hard to believe seeing as tescos owns £1 in every £8 spent by british consumers and they're supermarkets and lets face it we havent even added the other supermarkets, you may shop online for everything, but you are webmasters., its expected.

ahh but what do i know...

i just find it hard to believe thats all. It wouldnt be the first time a statistic has been wrong has it.

Sure you see a lot of delivery trucks on the road, but to account for 15% of goods? something doesnt seem right there.

What do you expect them to go on strike for? Dirty gear sticks in their vans?

They shouldn't be on strike for anything considering how bad the service is in the first place...

The courier service that Amazon uses is almost worse than Royal Mail.
