:stoned Network Solutions is HELPING US ALL

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080111/...n_name_dispute

After weeks of testing, Network Solutions LLC began this week to grab names that people search for on its Web site but don't immediately register.

The name is locked up for about four days, during which the person who made the search can buy it directly from the company for $35 a year ? a few times more than what many of its rivals charge. After that, the name returns to the pool and can be registered by anyone through any registration company.

Spokeswoman Susan Wade said Network Solutions was trying to combat domain name front running ? the use of insider information to snatch desired domain names before an individual or business can register them.

---------------

bwahaha what a bunch of clowns.. how transparent..

She might as well have said " we are going to protect people from the use of insider information to snatch desired domain names before an individual or business can register them", our plan is to use insider information to snatch your desired domain name before anyone can register it

Would it be possible to make them go bust by "searching" a bunch of random irrelevant domain names.

Say a 1000. Does the fee for this temporary holding come out of their pocket???

I think registrar can register and then delete domain within certain period and it doesn't cost them any thing.

The way I understand it, you can taste a domain for 5 days. If the registrar does not return it by then they own it. That is probably why they "reserve" it for 4 days. This is very common with dropped domains.

And that is the HUGE HUGE HUGE problem right now that fucking ICANN should have taken care of a loooooooooooong time ago.

There's no need to allow registrars that 5 day grace period they have, it's led to nothing but trouble. Crooked.

Legacy business from the monopoly they once had, has kept them going.

Slightly off topic but funny.
This is their idea of saving on domain names.

Wow 100 years and it's still $3 more per domain than I pay for 1 year at my current registrar.

Talk about something that'll make your elbow itch.

What a crock of shit. I stopped using two registrars due to them registering my names after I would search for them.

I thought they had to pay 25 cents or something to ICANN - does that not cover this bullshit 'grace period' then or something?

they can hold them for 5 days for free. there are some guys that have 100 or more registrars set up to hold domains and then pass them from registrar to registrar for 5 days ea for free.

They really piss me off on their .TV domains. How come they have a monopoly on .TV domains anyways?

Where else can you register a .TV domain?

I have one .TV domain and it just makes me cringe to pay these assholes.
