wtf DREAMHOST ?

LEAVE ME ALONE, idiots:

0. Introduction.
1. Round Cube!
2. Suggestions Screened!
3. Show Bounces!
4. New Office!
5. Union House Mission!
6. DHSOTM

################################################## ######################
0. Introduction.

You, my friend, are witnessing history. History of a historical nature
never before seen on the bits of the Historical DreamHost Newsletter.

This is SUCH a historic event, I wish George Washington or Alexander the
Great or Socrates or even Captain Caveman could have witnessed it. But
alas, none of them could. The foursome had an early tee time they just
couldn't delay.

But hey, YOU'RE here, and when you've got standards like mine, that's
good enough. Witness now, the remarkable, the incredible, the mundane:

The LATEST DreamHost Newsletter in DreamHost Newsletter HISTORY!

(Circa December 2007)

################################################## ######################
1. Round Cube!

Of course, it's not like the newsletter is late because we've been
working on a lot of features or anything. Nope, just your average
everyday run of the mill holiday laziness and overall slackitude plus
slothibility at work.

Fortunately, we were able to whip out some REALLY easy stuff, like a
VERY BETA installation of roundcube webmail (as opposed to squirrel
mail) at:

http://roundcube.dreamhost.com/

If you're one of the millions who've been wanting to try an alternative
to our current webmail that uses some more "ajaxy" features, but doesn't
support importing address books and is still very slow if you have a
large inbox, your prayers have been answered.

So go ahead, try it out. And when you're done, go whine about its
various shortcomings in the "Beta Testing" thread at our official
discussion forum:

http://discussion.dreamhost.com/

Or, if you want a chance to have your complaints actually addressed by
the developers of roundcube, visit THEIR official discussion forum at:

http://roundcubeforum.net/

################################################## ######################
2. Suggestions Screened!

Despite being SOO lazy and SOO late with this newsletter, I WAS able to
go through about 500 old pending suggestions since the last newsletter!

https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=home.sugg

GOTCHA! If you actually READ the last newsletter you will of course now
realize that *I* did no such thing.. it was *YOU*! And chances are, not
*YOU* the individual reading this newsletter right now to themselves,
but rather the collective "*YOU*", Happy DreamHost Customers!

Because, if you'll be so kind as to remember, ANYBODY can now go and
screen pending suggestions and mark them as dumb, done, dupes, easy, or
to be voted on! Enough time has now passed so that all those backed up
suggestions have become unclogged and can now be VOTED for (or against)
by *YOU*!

But wait, there's MORE! Some suggestions you deemed SOO easy that we're
not even putting them to a vote.. we're just going to DO em!

You can see the list of THOSE by clicking the new "View Suggestions
We're Working On" link at the aforementioned page. Of course, we make
no guarantee on WHEN any of those will get completed, but at least
there's no need to vote on them.. we hear ya loud and clear already!

See, I wasn't doing nothing this whole time. I was patiently waiting for
*YOU* guys to do something.

################################################## ######################
3. Show Bounces!

Or maybe I *WASN'T* waiting for you guys to do something. Maybe I was
waiting for ME to get a sudden spurt of furious programming inspiration,
so I'd have some new feature to report on, and which finally arrived 30
minutes ago, and not 30 minutes too soon!

https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=mail.list

now has a little "show bounces" link next to your current subscribers
(after you click on edit for an announcement list)! If you click it,
you'll be able to see WHICH of your subscribers' email addresses have
been bouncing.

For what nefarious purposes this could be used, I know not. But when
furious programming inspiration hits, damned be the fool who attempts to
deny it.

################################################## ######################
4. New Office!

Another important thing I've been doing instead of writing newsletters
is looking out the window of our NEW OFFICE:

http://blog.dreamhost.com/2007/12/21...dont-even-know

If your next web hosting bill from us is mysteriously tripled, now you
know why.

################################################## ######################
5. Union House Mission!

Remember last newsletter? Remember how early it was? Remember all the
great new features unveiled in it? Remember how funny it was? No?

Well, maybe you at least remember how we made a last second change to
our current DreamHost Charities in an attempt to get some double-double
action by the end of the year?

https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=home.charity

It worked! We ended up getting 66 donations for a total of $5878.47
which we matched and then donated to Union Rescue Mission who in turn
got it doubled for a grand total of $23,513.88!

In case you don't believe me and want to read it again on a blog:

http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/2008/...appy-new-year/

Now go back to our charity area and KEEP giving to The Life Link and the
VHL Family Alliance before we switch things up yet once again more time
next month!

################################################## ######################
6. DHSOTM

I've always considered scuba divers some of the laziest people on Earth,
so it's strangely appropriate that this month's lazy late DreamHost Site
of the Month winner is that of a diving shop located in Krabi, Thailand:

http://www.krabidivers.com/

Just staring at that lazy water effect at the top of the home page makes
me want to wrap this thing up and go take a nap.
