![]() I'm buying a house shortly and I've never had any experience with Home Owners Insurance. Wondering if anyone had any tips or where I can go to compare companies without having to listen to anymore agents feed me all kinds of bullshit about why they are better than everyone else?

I'm with American Family, got total coverage for a nice price. There are cheaper companies, but you have to remember, you get what you pay for. I want to make sure my home and stuff is covered.

I was with Farners for years. Recently changed to State Farm. Much better to deal with.

I use to work for State Farm, I can tell you exactly how they rate everything from cars to homes and the different factors involved in the process of giving rates. Email me if you want. jayvis[at]gmail[dotcom]

Now, I've heard from a lot of people that State Farm will screw you over in a minute when you actually need to file a claim.
This is where I'm running into the most problems. One guy gets screwed and tells me this insurance is garbage, but he might of been the only one. Does anyone know if there is anywhere to compare companies?

I have USAA for all my insurance (except health). If you have a parent who was in the armed forces, you can apply for it. It's truly the best insurance ever.
Be sure and get replacement coverage. Period. Also get a high deductible and don't file for little things. I've seen people get canceled because they made 3 claims in 5 years - but each of those claims were less than $1K. |
