    WTF? Does anybody here speak Venusian?

    So she's writing a paper for school and having difficulty with her opening paragraph so she asks me for help.....

    I was hesitant at first. It's her homework so why should I help her with it? But....She asked enough times that I caved in.

    So she reads me her paragraph and it's chock full of her condradicting herself. I point that out to her then she says: "How should I say what I mean?"

    Uh....I don't know.....Maybe by saying what you mean instead of a bunch of shit that says the opposite of what you mean?

    So I try to give her some basic ideas....Which she understands but is not sure how to apply it so again she asks for my help.

    I rewrite the first sentence for her correcting her contradictions and adding more positive words instead of the negative ones. She read it then complains that if she writes that, it's my paper and not hers. Then she storms out of the room.

    Seriously......WTF?

              According to the manual, I did the right thing. I even bit my tongue with the sarcasm part.

              I really don't care what makes the car run.....All I should have to know is that with regular maintenance and fuel, it should start and run with few problems. No?

                  She will NOT like the proper way for you to do this, but I'll tell you anyway. Teachers typically use the Socratic Method. In a nutshell, the teacher asks leading questions so the student can determine the answer for themselves. This may be pretty annoying to your girlfriend as you'd have to do it out of the context of a classroom, but the other approach (rewriting it to show her by example) didn't pan out too well. The Socratic Method may even get your girlfriend thinking you're being condescending. Try it out anway, though. This technique does wonders for the student's self esteem when they solve their "problem" (whatever it is) themselves. Ask her which parts of the sentence sound negative and then ask for alternate words. Hope that helps.
