I haven't seen them do what netsol is doing, but they're definitely in the domain kiting business. Have seen it on a number of occasions.

Network Solution are idiots. Sad to see them stoop this low. Their business must really be bad. Someone needs to tell them, this isn't 1997 anymore. You can't charge $35/year for a domain registration and expect to run a successful registrar.

however, other registrars say it's taken

so it looks like they are 'reserving' lookups purely for them, so you hav to order through them to get it
