IDENTIFIED PROBLEM: Web site uses a Nintendo trademark (Donkey Kong)

So I get this email today and it goes a little something like this:

Quote:
Re: http://www.xxxxxxxxx.com/ (domain removed)

IDENTIFIED PROBLEM: Web site uses a Nintendo trademark (Donkey Kong) in
the code of the page.

Dear Private, Registration,

We are an Internet monitoring agency representing Nintendo of America
Inc. ("Nintendo"). We are writing to ask you to stop using the Nintendo
properties in the hidden text/visible text/meta tags and/or title and/or
links of the above-referenced sexually explicit Web site. Nintendo's
customers include many children and their parents. Unauthorized use of
Nintendo trademark(s)/work(s) is harmful to those customers and will
tarnish Nintendo's reputation.

We look forward to your immediate confirmation that you have taken the
necessary steps to resolve this matter. To that end, you may email us at
[email protected].

Please note that these are automatic email boxes so typically no
response is sent as long as the problem is corrected.

Sincerely,
Cyveillance
My first thought was, "Goodness! This must be some sort of mistake! I would never sully the name of video gaming's most beloved and pixelated primate!" The blog they reference is purely RSS fed and so I had to rummage through it looking for any references to Donkey Kong. Lo and behold there is one post that contains the phrase, and I quote: "...and its ON LIKE DONKEY KONG."

I'd like some opinions on the matter. Should I remove the offending post out of respect for the company that makes the sweet, sweet Wii console? Or should I create a header that features Princess Peach blowing Donkey Kong while cuck Mario scrutinizes the event?

^^ what he said

Though I would have laughed if at the end of the email they said "Remove it or it's on like Donkey Kong!!!!" Now you have me curious as to the origin of the expression.

I got one of those letters years ago. I think I had one reference to nintendo and it was mispelt. I didn't remove it and then I got a more serious letter. They don't fuck around Sands and my advise would be just to remove it.

Donkey Kong brings only one thing to mind for me. The game. Just remove it.

I got one of these from Nintendo years ago when I used to run a link list. Wasn't even my content but I had a link to a Pokemon porn site lol, I'd take it down, it's not worth making a fuss.

It's not worth the aggravation to keep it. I would keep the letter for your own amusement, though. When the grandkids ask, "did you have Nintendo when you were a kid?" You can say, "Actually, Nintendo wrote me a letter once..."

Remove it and reply in writing that you have removed it, although next time they send you a letter that it will be on like donkey kong.

That is a pretty common phrase anymore. If it ever went to court, I'm not sure how well they would do, but really... who would actually challenge them?

Ya, as long as you have as much money as Nintendo for litigation, you should be fine.
