Trust me,, I have been to many many webmaster conventions. Between 96-99 I didn' t even appear on any of my websites. When we went to Shows guys always only talked to my husband. He kept saying "You need to talk to Steffie"

Male Webmasters still to this day talk to my husband and think I am just a dumb blonde who doesn't know shit and only like to suck dick.

Face it lady webmasters, men in this business WILL NEVER take us serious as webmistresses, it doesn't matter how many sites, how much money and how bright we are. EXPECIALLY if you also content somewhere on the net.

Why don't we form a Webmistress Alliance and do like some Male Alliances do!!

My sister has a company (Not Adult related). She is all brain and a looker. When they go to Conventions in her field everybody talks to her husband. She got so frustrated last month when they flew to the USA (she is in Germany) that she actually nixed a deal with a company because they wouldn't give her the time of day and constantly talked to her husband. Who has nothing to do with her company.

It's not only in this industry that women are not taking seriously, its in ALL business.

Yeah I worked at a porn studio once, supervising BEHIND the scenes. I wonder nowdays how I managed to put up with all the harrassment. if you want to play the "help me, I'm just a girl card" don't bother, but if you want to make the statement of "I'm interested in being a business person, help me" it might perk my ears up a bit more and maybe even get a little more attention....

While it might not seem fair, this is a business that is primarily dominated by men and features a lot of naked women...you can either complain about it all day or actually do something. Is it an easy fight? No. Nothing worthwhile ever is. What's fair and what's reality are often two different things...act like a business person and be treated like one. This goes for guys too. Some cocky prick who's only reason for being in this business is to fuck chicks and snort as much cocaine as he can will be treated like the ass he is, often times behind his back of course....

Yes I have BEEN the content and the webmaster....... for well over my first year in this business, I WAS my own content because I couldn't afford to BUY it, so I used the tools I had at hand. And it was VERY rare that I was ever confronted as the "I just wanna fuck you" thing. I have never been treated with disrespect because I am a woman by anyone who matters in MY business. Those who have treated me in this manner get the same Rude Bitch attitude as I would give to ANYONE who treated me as an inferior.

I have no love for ANYONE who uses a Superior or an Inferior card. If you come at me acting smarter than me because you are a man, then fuck you, if you come at me as a woman and act inferior and helpless because you are a woman, then fuck you too!! I have had this last one happen to me several times because some think I am a man when they first talk to me and don't know me.

REALITY has it, that MOST business people by NATURE are automatically assume the MAN is the head of the house, so to speak........ you can put them in their places WITHOUT doing the "typical woman thing" as people call it and being a bitch.

I am going to my first show in January and I am a woman, but you wanna know what MY biggest fear is? Not about guys wanting to use me as their content, but the NUMBER of people in general that will be there. I am a very small town girl and I have never been in a place like that....... so just the rat race alone scares me more than anything............ ;)

I worked my way thru network engineering school by doing tech work for www.bigmamas.com. Was run by an older woman from New Jersey at that time. At the time, her partner had just run off with the content, passwords and money..So I helped her rebuild..The men in this biz at that time laughed at us..

Then I became a network engineer..MCSE, CNE..Worked as a civillian engineer for the army in Ft. Monmouth..This little bs here is nothing compared to what I had to go thru..Was the only woman among hundreds!! Talk about discrimination!! You have no clue..Anyway, I survived that..Became the head of info tech for a technical college in Florida..People treated my assistant, a guy, with more respect..
I do this now by choice..I don';t want to work for "the man" anymore..I want to make my own way.. I still do consulting work and do that when I choose for whom I choose..But this is more fun..And I'm learning a hell of a lot about graphics, scripts, etc, etc..!! Something I never got into before..
But yes, the good ol' boy society is here and in all areas..There is nothing we can do about it..

I couldn't disagree with this more. What you're basically saying here is that all men are disrespectful to female webmasters in this business. In my experience, every sentence that starts with "all men" or "all women" is just plain wrong. Fact is, the only thing "all men" are is, well... men. Other than that, everyone is different.

Having said that, I'll add that I can see where at the big shows it can happen where the business women are disrespected. A large chunk of this business is based on disrespect, thus it attracts a lot of seedy people with ambiguous morals that are looking for a quick buck, so it is only natural that any large function will contain a good percentage of immaturity. I also think that there are likely a lot of good respectful professional webmasters that stay at home and remain in the wings of the business, so you rarely if ever see them at the shows. But they are out there nonetheless.

I can safely say with 100% confidence that if I were to attend one of these shows I wouldn't make assumptions about anyone as to their status in the biz. If I were to meet you Steffie, and your hubby, I would inquire during our conversation what you both do, and that would be that.

My point here really is that not all men are any one thing, but I can absolutely see where it could get frustrating when you have dummies assuming all sorts of things about you at the shows. I know several female web admins that attend these large shows, and they conduct themselves completely in a complete professional manner and are good representatives of their employers at all times. They all say much the same things as Tam said above, and that kind of respect pretty much comes from within. Anyone standing in a room with Tam having no respect for her will soon get the message plain and simple. (or loud and clear, depending)

I have to throw my :2 cents: in here.

I've been in this biz for four years. In that four years I have come to accept the following:

1. It's primarily about women and run by men.
2. All men want to look at naked women.
3. If I, as a female, am going to survive in this biz, I have to develop a thick skin and always keep in mind that it's the testosterone that makes them act the way they do.

Sure, there are circumstances under which I would be horribly angry and insulted if someone were to suggest I "show my tits". However, I acknowledge that *I* don't have to deal with those people if I don't choose to.

Don't get me wrong. I totally agree with the other webmistresses here as far as arguments about women having to fight harder to get whatever respect they earn in all areas of business. I despise the helpless, brainless approach that so many women use to manipulate men... makes things 10 times harder for those of us who do it the honest way, with hard work, brains, and determination.

I'm in this business because I love it, because it enables me to be a full-time mom and home school my son, and because I'm just not a rat-race kind of person. The people that I work for in this industry are my friends and I have their respect and appreciation... and I've had to work hard to get it, which is something I am very proud of. Never once was I asked to show my tits or spread 'em for the boss... because he's a class act and hired me because I'm good at what I do, NOT because I'm a member of the opposing gender.

I too was asked to "show my tits" when I first started posting here, but I laughed it off as a joke (it's in the FAQ, for the love of Pete!) and moved on, figuring it was some initiation rite that females had to go through. I won't show my tits not because I'm unhappy with them or not because I'm shy; I won't show my tits because I'm doing business here, not participating in a strip show. However, my skin is thick enough that I didn't let it get to me and won't stop posting here because of it. Kinda goes along with the territory as far as I'm concerned. I simply ignored those posts, although I did acknowledge a couple that inquired about my gender because that seemed appropriate and reasonable to me. No harm, no foul guys... or girls!

To be honest I tend to agree with Lensman on the show us your tits thing. I did get even more obscene when a new girl appeared recently but purely because I know her and knew she'd take it as me being the silly twat I usually am - I have no real desire to see anymore tits/ass/pussy as I get to see enough as it is. However, it's easy enough to join the herd when posting the 'show us your tits' thing without sitting back and realising that some (many?) women may be offended by it. This business does corrupt just a little ;)

Other than that both Tam and CD summed it up in two excellent posts. I know far too many women who are far more successful and intelligent than a lot of men to ever assume any are dumb bimbos no matter where I meet them.
