I worked in several DoD laser research labs and I'm sure I have all kinds of holes in my retina. Does that count?

I had it done 5 years ago I love it and it was the best 1100$ I ever spent.

I got 20/15 vision out of it and before that I could not read a wrist watch on my arm without glasses

I took 2 days off work and went to a tradeshow on the 3rd day and was fine.

I just got it done last month...the procedure was a bit horrible...but now I can see without the use of glasses.

I couldnt read without them.

I got it done on a Saturday, and by Monday I was back at work...plugging away at the PC...

i dont really find my contacts unhandy or something... and i just dont trust doctors with the combination of a laser + my eyes... i know doctors can fuck up things and my eyes are just too precious to put them on the line, even if the chances are like one in a million that they fuck up - im fine with contacts.

I have been wanting to do it for a few years now. Just didn't have the extra money to do it whenever I had the opportunity. Glad to hear all success stories in here rather than some disasterous story about eyeballs popping out or cut in half or something crazy like that.

My mom had it done in 2000 or 2001. She was half blind her whole life and now has 20/20 vision. She pretty much walked out in good shape.

Yeah, my eyes actually went from nearly legally blind to better than 20/20

Me and Patty both did 4-5 years ago, best gift we gave ourselves beside quitting smoking...

The "operation" by itself take a whoppping 35 seconds, and if you get it right, you be up and running after few days..

My suggestion : Get your primary eye done on Thursday night, take Friday off and get the second eye done that day...

Monday Morning, you'll be just like new

I had it done last year. I have some glare problems at night other then that it's something I would recommend. Make sure you pick the right doctor and do your homework.

Wow, you guys really make it sound easy. I've been thinking about it for awhile now. My vision is nill without glasses and I have allergies that make it too difficult to wear contacts.

Maybe I should take a more serious look this year.

I've been wondering that, too. Been putting it off way too long. A friend of mine had hers done about three years ago and was back at work by the third day. She had horrible eyesight plus a bit of a cross-eye situation, and now she's almost 20/20.

That's the thing that has me a bit concerned. All my reading on the internet has produced info saying that your eyes keep changing as you age (explaining why older adults are more far-sighted) so you might have to get the procedure done again later in life. However, if they've already shaved away part of your eye, there might not be enough to shave again.

Ya, but if I can have 30 or 40 years of no contacts or glasses, I can handle wearing some reading glasses when I'm old. That's how I would look at this.

Depends on the actual procedure you get done.

I had to get the PRK because I had astigmatism. After 3 or 4 days I was able to get back to work but text on my monitor was blurry and hard for me to read! I had to up the font size pretty big for about a month. PRK takes a lot longer to heal. My vision is now 20/15

My friend had the Lasik surgery the same day as me and was seeing 20/20 within 24 hours.

I was thinking about doing it. Discussed it with a friend of mine, who is an eye specialist. He himself wears glasses. He told me that it has advantages when it´s getting done right, but there are no long term studies about it.

So he recommended it only for a large defective vision.

Reading the posts here, it seems to be no problem. I´ll think about it again.

there was a 10 year study just released about lasik that it had no long term negative effects... saw it on the news a few days ago

i had my lasik done about 4 years ago, best money ever spent

sat up and was 20/20 right in the chair! back to work the next day (they give you sleeping pills to knock you out after the surgery so that you dont fuss)

painless, would totally do it again

All I can say is DO IT.
Best Money Ever Spent!
I would do it again if I had to.
I think I had mine done 4 years ago, I was off work 2 days, and have to wear protective glasses at work and sleeping so you don't rub your eyes.
I did have the one done where they slice the cornia, fold it down, hit your eye with the laser and put the cornia back, thats why you can't rub them for a couple of weeks. I have had 20/20 since walking out the door.
BUT Listen, Don't go CHEAP, they are your eyes your talking about....
They offered me the "new" tracking procedure they had at the time, cost like $500 an eye more, but well worth it, DON'T go Cheap!

Oh, and if you have insurance, several companies are now paying some or all for this....
