anyone know about engine diagnostic machines?

i just got my shit checked out for why it wouldnt crank and was told it was the starter. Told them to fix it now they call back and say the engine light is on and the need to do another $78 diagnostic since they cant verify the engine light wasnt on before i came in since the car wouldnt crank thanks to the starter. Im thinking whatver is wrong with it should have showed up on the original diagnostic but then again i dont know anything about that shit. Who gets 2 diagnostics in the same visit within 1 hour? Anyone know anything about this shit?

Sounds like BS to me. Takes 15 seconds to plug in the computer and click one button. You can buy your own that connects to your laptop by USB for <$300.

nah the check engine light. It's a nissan maxima.

It's "fixed" now. I talked to them yesterday and acted like i knew what i was talking about and they said ummmm let us call you back. Called back a little later and said everything was OK and there would be no charge for the diagnostics test for the 2nd time. Still came out paying $390 just to get a fucking starter and have it put it 4me.
