Tell them you market to the adult market. It not like your in pornos. If lying makes you so stressed tell the truth.
You seemed to have huge problems in social situations, you should get help for that and deal with it while your young.

Not really. I know I could make a celeb gossip and do googe ads on the side or whatever, but if my blog isn't well known it would be unrealistic to expect my family to believe that I can support myself on just one blog. Of course I can lie and always say that I have a network of hundreds of blogs and just show them one I suppose...

But yea, those are good ideas. The problem is that I can only pick one thing though and stick to it. If I say different things all the time it's going to seem like I am just saying whatever and nothing is concrete or definite.

It has to be an universal answer I can use for everyone, I don't want to say I market adult because what if some of the people I talk to are 60 years old and old-fashioned; some people you should just not be so open with. There are going to be specific circumstances when revealing the truth won't be the most prudent thing to do.

Also, the INS thing, when you apply for citizenship they interview you 1 on 1. I read on message boards about what the personal interview entails in detail, and one man told him the interviewer was very specific. He was some kind of software engineer and she still pressed for specific details. He wrote that she was a no-nonsense woman that appeared to not take any bullshit. Reading that kind of gave me second thoughts about applying.

What are some really easy and non-complicated niches for mainstream where I can just make some fake sites, ... I already know abut commission junction and linksynergy etc

It has to be something BELIEVABLE though and something where people will believe that it is possible for you to earn quite a bit of money doing it, enough to earn a good living, not a few hundred dollars a month.

tell them you devise and implement internet marketing campaigns. -bmb

I'm not ashamed. Do you think it's a great idea to tell a 90 year old feeble great-aunt or whatever that I sell porn?

Do you think I should tell INS I sell porn when apply for citizenship?

Come on now.

Should I tell people that I have a firm that advertises and does PPC for mainstream companies and helps them get good SEO results? etc? I am thinking that would backfire, what if someone asks me to do SEO for their own business or asks me to help them for their own sites? That's not the area I usually work for in, I don't specialize in doing advertising for third party companies.

You say you're only doing big corporate clients and that you don't take any projects that requires under 6 months job. If they ask you wich site, you say you have a non disclosure agreement with them as they are a publicly traded compagny and they don't release anything until next fiscal quarder.

Lol, if I say this I have to say it with conviction. I feel like my family looks down on me because I didn't go to university and don't have a prestigious profession. I think this is what they think.

If I use words like NDA and "fiscal quarters" I'm afraid they might roll their eyes at me, and be like "Oh, you only have a GED. You know what "fiscal" means?"

Of course they wouldn't say this, but I feel like this is how they feel about me secretly.

D Ghost 01-01-2008 07:50 PM

Yeah SEO, "Internet Stuff", "Online Advertising", Etc.

.~. 01-01-2008 07:55 PM

Just tell them you were violated online and you don't like to talk about it.

Then produce the ripped and stained panties from the "rape" and ask them if they feel good about themselves now.

Who cares seriously how they feel about what you are saying if you are making more money then them.

I can understand you not wanting to officially deal with 'porn', but why the fuck would you be ashamed of success ?

If you feel they don't respect you, success will just proove them wrong and they will start to respect you.

I don't think I make more than all of them, some of them I might, but I have uncles who I am guessing make like 500k a year or something, I don't make more than that...

I feel like they don't respect me because I don't have a degree and don't have a prestigious profession. I think they might respect someone more who makes less but has a degree. I'm not 100 percent sure, but that's what I THINK they think.

I think even if I was really rich they still wouldn't respect me. Perhaps it's because I have an inferiority complex so I'm projecting on others. It's confusing. I don't know :(

I'm not rich at all. Making six figures a year is nothing in California, you're not rich unless you have many millions and I do have some rich people in my family, I don't know exactly how much they make of course, but I can guess some have net worths of many millions (that's only a select few though).

Some people aren't rich in my family but they are respectable, for example, professors, scientists, etc so they have a "title" you know what I mean. Doesn't matter if they don't make money, everyone respects them.

I am sure we have some nobodies or people who are not high up or whatever. I don't really know who though, besides me.

spooky181 01-01-2008 08:34 PM

I have just got married, and have this same problem telling her people what I do. I just tell them about being an affiliate for mainstream products (medicines, cosmetics, etc etc) I tell them I sign up to promote hundreds of different products, and promote them via, seo, links pages etc etc. Everyone I have told this thinks it's great, but can't get their head around it but it does the job of getting them off my back!!!...

sortie 01-01-2008 08:43 PM

Tell them you drive a truck for a moving company.

End of conversation.

Vick! 01-01-2008 10:13 PM

Start a white label online store .. and tell that you generate sales by advertising via adwords.

Simplest.

One word: Sales.

People with class probably won't probe you any further unless it's friends or family. Then you can say "I provide sales leads for various products, mostly though internet advertising."

Be prepared for the "What kind of products?" response though. For that you can reply "That changes a lot. Anything that is hot. Right now it's [insert latest tech gadget here].

The average person will not see though your BS.

I've noticed that people don't care how successful you are in porn.

You are still shady trash..

wanted 06-08-2008 02:50 PM

Maybe you should just do something you'll feel confortable to tell others..

rayadp05 06-08-2008 03:40 PM

The people that ask what I do, I just tell them. I tell them that I am an adult webmaster, photographer and a male performer for adult videos. I don't give a fuck if they don't like it. Not to mention, I am proud of what I do.

Don-Antonio 06-08-2008 05:40 PM

Tell them you promote conversiondoubler.com If they are not computer savvy, desciption will be boring as shit, and if they are, you might sell them a copy ;-)
