It will be grand. We are at 6% sales tax right now and very soon we will be at 5%. Oh yea!

And in Alberta thats the only tax too. Wish we could do away with income tax, you would think the oil revenue would cover it much like gambling does in nevada.

Hehe, our state is doing the exact opposite on January 1 (going from 5% to 6%). Yay.

Yea, I am in Calgary! It will be nice. I liked going from 7% to 6%.... now to 5%. It is nice. Actually makes a difference on big ticket items.

Last year, or maybe 2 years ago now all of Edmonton went smoke free. Bars were up in arms about it, how it would cost them all this money.
They made more money smoke free then they did with smoking. No one loses business because its not like you can go down the road and smoke in a different bar.

Come Jan 1, all of Alberta goes smoke free.

I think that was like 2 years ago? But in any case it was awesome. I heard talk about them doing it again, but possibly a larger amount. But also that the money might just go into Albertas infrastructure too.

Yea, it was grand. I don't think they will do it again. The provincial government is doing a good job in my opinion. I'd wish they would spend more money on education though. Also, build that high-speed train from Calgary to Edmonton. That would be grand.
If they really go all out, they could get the Maglev system. Oh it would be grand.

Honestly, the smoke-free things will be sweet! I don't smoke, and I certainly don't enjoy sitting in a smoke-chamber all evening.

I don't smoke either, and its awesome going out now. It was one reason I wouldn't go lots of the time.

I heard Bombardier was going to foot the bill to put their high speed train between Calgary and Edmonton. They figured they could get the cost back pretty easy. Which I am sure they could, hour and 15 minutes between and not dealing with the airport BS. Takes about 3 hours of time out of the day to fly between the two so it would be much quicker.

Here are my problems with the airport... not saying that they could change anything, just stuff that bothers me.

- The line ups for check-in
- The line ups for bag drop-off
- The undressing for security, pulling my 2 notebooks out, and all that good stuff.
- The waiting for delays.

A train would be great if the C-Train would go to the train station. Hells, I'll be in Edmonton at least once a month then.

I'll never forget when the no smoking ban closed my favorite cigar bar, how fucked up is that. The owner was basically told by our local government to close his successful business, lose his investment, fire his employees.
