I think it comes out in people that were ignored or chastised at a younger age. If reports are true that he is severely overweight, it may have been an issue he has dealt with his whole life. He never received attention from girls or others as he grew up, and the internet is a way to get the attention. Fighting "society" for ignoring him and teasing him.

That would be my guess, someone who was overweight their whole life and had to deal with teasing and other issues associated with it. His answer when he got older was to revolt against that society. He is probably very comfortable in settings such as town halls and even courtrooms. But he's probably very shy and timid in social setting such as bars, restaurants and parties.

And I don't want it to come across in an antagonizing way because it's not an issue to joke about. It's a mental illness, something that should be treated by a psychiatrist and doctor. These are the people that shoot up malls and schools.
