British Rally Against USA

This is interesting.... Rest of the planet is hitting critical mass...

http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0...132369,00.html

The game is up for the Bush Administration. They may get their war but they've lost control of anything else. America is willing to lose the voice of their allies (the people's voice, not the politicos) in order to fight this war....

*********************
Thousands In Peace Rally

Around 150,000 protesters have marched through London in what is thought to have been the biggest ever peace rally in Britain.

The demonstrators marched from Embankment to the Houses of Parliament, up Whitehall and along Piccadilly to protest against possible strikes on Iraq.

Organisers said around 400,000 protesters made the journey to the capital, but police put the official figure at 150,000.

Oil charge

They said the campaign to order Iraq to relinquish weapons of mass destruction was an excuse to fight a war for a better deal on oil prices.

Organised by the Stop the War coalition, the marchers included pacifists, socialists and pro-Palestinian groups.

The marchers chanted: "No blood for oil" and "Sharon is a killer", referring to the Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

Labour opposition

They were opposing proposed military action against Iraq by US President George Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The demonstrators were addressed by speakers including veteran left-winger Tony Benn and London Mayor Ken Livingstone, who warned that the Government could not go on ignoring the protests.

"It's one of the most powerful demonstrations there's ever been for peace," he said.

"One day people are going to have to have a peaceful revolution to make sure Parliament answers to them and not just the government of the day."

The organisers said they would be calling a Don't Attack Iraq Day of Action on Thursday October 31 involving college occupations and teach-ins, workplace meetings and protests and peaceful "direct action".

"It's one of the most powerful demonstrations there's ever been for peace," he said.

Quotes like this make me laugh.

Yes I saw that demonstration on BBC. Seems to me that only Arabs marched there. Even BBC said that support for war is rising in UK lately.

150,000 is all? They used to muster far more than that against the Vietnam war, if I'm not mistaken.

Muslims are all over the world. It's not the question of a particular religion. Bush is a politician and he always tries to divert the attention of the public hide his lacunas. He wants only war.

CNN had live coverage and there was NOT 150,000 people there. There was a park where protestors organized before the march. A CNN reporter filmed the park area and it was was mostly empty. They estimated 10,000 at the time and said protest organizers were unhappy about the poor turnout. He also said the estimate of 10,000 seemed like an exxageration.

Organisers said around 400,000
police put the official figure at 150,000
BBC says As many as 250,000
The actual film shows not enough people to fill a small park.

The protests over high gasoline prices in England ( last year )lasted weeks and had a much higher turnout.

protests over gas? well, they lasted weeks because the dweebs that drive the gas refused to do so. So, really it only took a handful of people to hault the distribution.

The police say 150,000 and I don't know what pics you saw but look at the pic on the top of this article:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/2285861.stm

So, i would suggest you didn't see the whole thing. The march, from what I read, took place from Embakement (where that pic is) to Parliment. Not really a big park along that route so I would think that the CNN person might have been in a park where people were gathering together to go to the main march.

Just for FYI..I don't have a clear cut view on this myself other than being rather uneasy about it but I'm not going to deny it was a big turn out.

Though, have a look at a british newspaper on May Day and see what London looks like then.

It certainly isn't "clear" that he has them.

There comes a time in every mans life when he gets tired of pretending to *like* people he has to deal with regularly.

Question is, can *you* be bought and will you let money sway your reactions.

Most people have *their* price.

That is *exactly* why I love London. You can be a freak and people don't care. If only the rest of the world or even this country was like that.

Then again, I have loads of friends that dress like that so I don't really consider them freaks.

HelloOoo, that's WHY they're going into Iraq, to show everyone that there are weapons there.

And I don't know any other way to say this, but sometimes..... just sometimes..... it doesn't behoove the government to prove fuck all to it's citizens. Sometimes it behooves a government to do things that are in the realm of protecting national security and ongoing freedoms etc. In other words, in times that call for war, your government doesn't have to prove shit to you. You do what you're told, period. And if later on you are proved to be right and they are wrong, then feel free to vote for a change in government.

Those that protest would feel awefully remorseful if Iraq was left to do as it pleases and they eventually cause a full-on world war with their stock-piled weapons.

From that pic it's still hard to tell how many people are there. In the pic it could be only a few thousand, or if it was to zoom out there could be a few hundred thousand.

When is the last time France invaded another country like Iraq did in the style of the Kuwait occupation? Plus, it's known that Saddam has used chemical weapons on people in recent past, so what is your malfunctioning point oldy? When's the last time you heard of any country other than Iraq using such weapons??

Does that not warrant concern in your country's way of thinking?

Well this is amazing. Since we are helping out the world again we still get criticsm. Sorry but America is pretty far to launch a Nuke at the United States. So realistically I'm sure Sadamm is about to throw a Nuke Britians way. Its not a matter of not doing this its a matter of we have to do this. We can't have a Sept 11th again. With Sadam building more weapons its just a matter of time before he launches those to the neighboring countries. Why wouldn't he? He tested all his chemical weapons on his own people. Do you think he loves you Brits?
Yeah right. I say we don't do anything. Then when UK is Nuked all those protesters will be singing a different tune. So lets wait and let him fuck up Europe and the Mideast. Then we'll say told you so and have to save the world again!

Take it easy there, war-mongerer.

If Saddam has anything beyond a tactical delivery capability, you can bet he'd be hitting the Isrealis or the Saudis.

Attacking Iraq is not an effective way of preventing or preempting another Sept 11th. Reforming our intelligence apparatus and ending the Reagan-Bush Reich are our best options.

WHY IS THAT??? THATS THE QUESTION YOU REALLY NEED TO ASK!

I'm not about war, buddy!
So there you go. You answered your own question. Do you think we should allow him to do that? Not a threat to Europe but hes a threat to the Saudis and Israelis. So we should forget about it. Good thinking buddy!

Well United States has been bitten in the ass for not preparing for the worst. Pearl Harbor, September 11th, etc. So now since we are preparing for the worst and dealing with a potential problem down the line all I have to say is its about fucking time!

I can't follow what you're saying.

Personally, I think the US is going to do whatever it wants regardless of world opinion. That's not a slam against the US, it's just my 2 cents...

If Hussein does indeed have weapons of mass destruction then indeed he needs to be prevented from using them. We ARE talking about a man that used chemical weapons against his OWN PEOPLE are we not? What would stop him from using nuclear weapons against western countries if he could?

Remember that bully in school? That's Saddam. He's not likely to victimize those who have the capability to strike back in kind. Iranians and Kurdish fundamentalists lack the force majeure necessary to intimidate him.

Imagine what people living back in 1939-41 said when the whole world went insane with war breaking out everywhere.

Nowadays someone has to take steps to prevent that from happening, because that kind of worldwide insanity in this day and age would likely wipe out the planet.

Very true, it's not the wars with machine guns, tanks ect... These days the technology is so advanced, that I think if WW III breaks out, the whole world is really fucked
