Before clicking that I was sure that one of the 5 would be Canadian. But as bad as some of our roads and highways are I can see they aren't in league with those horror stories. That hiking trail one is completely insane.
And the Russian one, christ, haven't the Ruskies ever heard of gravel? What about asphalt?? lol

I saw a special on that road of death on National Geographic or Discovery or something. Even people who ride their bikes on that road die. Their brakes have gone out on their fucking bicycle and they end up flying off the road. Shit is nuts.

Hwy. 191 from Springerville to Morenci in AZ is a lot like that Bolivia road. Not as third world, of course, it's two lanes and paved, but it's high and twists like a motherfucker. I have driven it once and never will again.
"The Federal Highway Administration considers this road to be the curviest road in the nation, with 450 switchbacks and up to 1000 curves and turns in total. The rumors on the rider grapevine are true. For an incredible ride, this one is very hard to beat. It’s long, it’s twisty, it’s a roller coaster, and it’s in a wilderness setting that will thrill whatever senses you have left that the road didn’t overload. The elevation change is more than 6,000 ft from around 3,000 ft in the Sonoran Desert to over 9,000 ft in the Alpine meadows, forests and highlands." http://www.azride.com/route666run.html |
