    ...of things I should keep before installing Windows XP Pro.

          Unless you have software you cant run I would stay with 2000..

          Wait till Vista SP2 is out and then upgrade.

              SP1 won't even be out for a few months. SP2 is probaly 3 years away.

                  I wonder what the upgrade will be to Vista - they used the code LongHorn I think - anyone know the code for the next one?

                              As of right now it's called Windows 7 though a name change is likely. It's due to be out in 2010 but likely every other thing MS does expect that date to be pushed back.

                              And if did come out in 2010 or even 2011 why would I even bother getting vista?
