leaping shark takes kangaroo...

...A SHARK has been seen leaping out of the sea and attacking a kangaroo.

The marsupial was paddling out into the water, according to a witness, when the shark breached the surface and took the roo down.

The witness, Daniel Hurst, said he saw the bizarre assault at Torquay, in Victoria.

i am off to torquay this weekend to get some photos. This phenomenon is not a random behavoir. Sharks have been known to do this in south america with humans and other species and in other places near where I grew up.

hopefully i see something.

Kangaroos swimming in the sea? Weird. I guess they could use their tails as a rudder.

Odd kangaroo fact: on land kangaroos can't move their hind legs independently, only together. But when they are swimming (they are good swimmers) they kick each leg independently.

I was wrong

Ok i researched and your right it seems they can swim. But im not satisfied: Is it ethical to test this by catching one and throwing it into a swimming pool?

I hear they cant go backwards?

I saw a kangaroo eat a shark, I did.

how far away from torquay do you live ?

to me, this is a very rare occurance.

Ive heard of sharks breaching in south africa and that island off california or whatever where there are heaps of big great whites, but never close enough to shore for someone to see, let alone involving a kangaroo.

When roos are being hunted for game. They find water and swim out and wait for the dogs. When the dogs come out to attack them they drown them. They have been known to drown 15+ dogs at one time.

Kangaroos can swim and they are good at it too, I have personally seen a kangaroo swim from one side of the Murray River to the other side, Kangaroos are also known to drown dogs that chase them in to water

these sharks do in alaska. its pretty insane. when salmon are running around Kodiak Island and the bays are full of salmon, these sharks (Salmon Sharks) dive straight down and then swim straight up through the schools of salmon and come completely out of the water. i've seen maybe 1000 doing it at the same time. certainly a bizarre site.

at most, 2.5hrs away. To most happy to travel with the flow, it is done in just under 2. I just so happened to be spending a weekend up there this week anyhow. I just thought i may as well do as homer did with the giant salmon only catch some pics.

and btw, in south america they are known to breach beach swimming areas protected by a natural reef structure. Whether or not you think it is possible, I know that such is life.
