Google is where the internet begins, for some people

There are so many people I know that have no idea that websites have addresses. That they just load their browser, get a google homepage (or some other home page with a google box) and they type in what they want there.

I recently told a family member to go to yahoo.com, and rather than just go to it, they plug it into Google and search for it and then go to it from the results. Getting them to go to one of my sites (that isn't listed first in google) can be a real chore!

There's no real point to this post, it's just a rant of frustration with people who can't do the simplest tasks online. Sometimes in my own little twisted mind, I try to picture them navigating the net before Google was around. And I chuckle.

heh...my mom does that
I made her a start page for her browser, with a link that goes to a page on my server where I load up stuff I want her to look at.

I know several people who do that.

Me: Why are you typing the URL in there. You already know the URL.
Them: What's "URL" mean?
Me: Uhh, sorry. You already know the address. Why are you searching for it?
Them: What do you mean?
Me: You only need to search for an address when you don't know where you're going. Just type the address in the address bar at the top of the browser window.
Them: The what bar in my what?
Me: Oh, fuck it. Do it your way.

Thank god there's still this kind of people out there, who else would buy porn when you can join a torrent site and download everything for free.

My Father in law used to think Google search results are the internet, If what he was looking for was not written in the summary of the page, he was lost.

I enlightened him to click on one of the results and he was in total amazement.. a new world opened up for him...

Google is a godsend to me. We all earn from google in my POV and as far as actually searching for something.. It beats the hell out of the 1996 WebCrawler, Exite and remember the good old Infoseek? lol

I do this sometimes... being that I never did change my mozilla start page... when I open a browser I may just start typing my url or whatever i know will bring up the result first and I do it that way.. I only do this when I open a fresh browser...

Its like I can do it much faster when i open a browser that way... instead of moving my mouse or using more key steps to get my cursor to the addey bar instead of the defualt cursor placement on my start page ... in the google/mozilla search box...

i just type the word... enter ... tab tab enter and im there

instead of hand to mouse to addey bar ... type full url, or take the time to chop out the url placement with the mouse or keys and type in just the url...

it just depends on where IM at... do I depend on it, no...

i can see if someone does this full time... or the go to url thing really spazzes me out... but ... dont frustrate yourself over it... you have much bigger shit to think about...

You get that with any site worthy of bookmarking.

I have surfers even typing the entire url in google like http://www.domain.com/home.html I don't know if they're really that dumb or if they thought the mouse cursor was in the address bar.

Back in the day we used to pray for AOL surfer traffic to come to our sites. These are the same sort of people.

Everyone in my family does that. I could care less how they do it really. It's frustrating as hell that no one knows how to use the internet but who can blame them. So much shit, so much bloat. If it works for them it works, yknow.
