You might want to keep the cat... Mice come back when the cats gone.

Yup, cat is the best answer. Either that or get some real mouse traps.

Hate to freak you out, but for every one you see, there are at least a half dozen (but could be a lot more) in the same vicinity that you don't see.

Here is the big question,

* Do you live in the country and this is a field mouse looking for winter lodging for the family?

Or do you live in a congested area and this is a sign of mice spreading out from bad sanitation? Mice do live in groups and spread quickly.

Easy. Take an empty toilet paper roll and put little peanut butter at one end. Carefully balance the roll on the edge of your counter so as much as possible hangs over the edge but doesn't fall off. Place a tall, empty, container/garbage can below the tube. Walk away.

We caught ours in less than 15 minutes.

I agree with the peanut butter part of this. I've used a raisin covered with peanut butter with a traditional trap. I would not suggest using the poison type traps where they just go off and die some where. A small infestation should not be too difficult to deal with. If you live in an apartment or condo, they could be coming from the neighbors.

They are really not that hard to get rid of.

You have field mice and you will never get rid of them as they have paths they have been following for generations, long before homes were built there.

You just move there or something?

There is various traps you can set you can get them at hardware stores. if you think there is more then one of them you can contact Orkid they exterminate mice/mouse but you can always check the yellow pages to find out how they get rid of them if you don't want to harm them.

with cold whether coming around in some places they are just looking for a warm home.

you need to find out where they are getting in from, and try and stop that from happening. You can catch the ones that are inside, but there are more behind them.
The most effective traps are glue traps, but they are debatably the most cruel.
