Laptop HP, Acer or Toshiba?

I need some help to choose between a laptop HP, ACER or Toshiba? I want to have a laptop reliable with a good battery to work with for a long period. Tell me the company you would choose.

I had an HP for 4 years. the machine was good, but the battery was a bit on the crappy side.

Got my first Dell Laptop. and so far, so good. I get about 6 hours of basic work

I cant recommend Dell.

I bought a laptop for my cross country move. I used the thing only a little bit. Seems i gotta replace the keyboard in it already.

how a soft keypad like a laptop goes out so quick i have no idea. I didnt even use it during the trip, i tried to get internet in hotel during drive and it was down, so i didnt even use the damn thing on my move. and it went out.

IMHO, as a person with a lot of tech background, I usually suggest Toshiba. I have had the least amount of trouble from them, and their batteries usually hold out exactly as the specs show. They are good work-horses and hold up for constant travel.

As for HP, they look cool and usually have some nice options, but their power adapter port usually busts on you. I travel a lot, and I do a lot of plugging and unplugging the cord from the laptop. My experience has shown me that their ports tend to not hold up to wear and tear. If you plan on leaving it on a desk all the time, go for it, otherwise be warned.

The only reason to get an Acer is if you are really concerned about cost. If you want some cheap laptops, go for Acer, but if you want something reliable and going to work for you...get a Toshiba.

Thats my 2 cents.

I just got an ACER Travelmate series 6292 like 2 weeks ago, works pretty fine except for the battery which gets low-charged easily.

I have an Acer but I only get 3 hrs battery life. (I push the thing hard though) I'm always on AC power so it doesnt bother me and the comp itself is great.

If cost doesnt matter for ya, get a Toshiba since the battery does last longer. Have several friends with them and heard nothing but praise

yes i second that. the head of an IS&T department @ a company with about 2k employees said that Toshiba costs more but is the best when it comes to quality.

i have a brand new dell and had a minor problem with it... called up tech support and they walked me through taking it apart and reattaching a tiny keyboard cable.... bam after that fixed adn the guy i talked to was so awesome i talked to his manager and gave the guy a little strokie stroke... hopefully that = a nice xmas bonus around now.

I would go with dell personally... the price is right, and all th times i have talked to tech support have been butter.

HP's worked fantastic for me.

If you want better battery life, upgrade to a better battery. lots of upgrade options with the HP's, at least - but I'd imagine that's the case with any brand you choose.

Stay away from Acer, it's just not worth it.

I'd go for the HP.

Acer are cheap but we bought 3 for the office and found them all to be unreliable when used heavily.

You'd have to look at the specs to figure out which one will have a good battery life, not so much the company selling them. Check out tigerdirect.ca or .com, they've got some good deals on now.

I personally will never buy another Toshiba product ever. I had a Toshiba A70 that crapped out 1 month before the warranty was up. I took it in for repair and most of the major components were replaced motherboard etc. If I were to replace the motherboard on my own it would have made more sense to just buy a new laptop.

just over 1 year later I was experiencing the same problem now the warranty is up, so I decided to look online to see if anyone else had similar problems, and what I found out was that it looked as if at least 95% of this model and several other Toshiba's have had the exact same problem. The problem being that they put the cooling vents right beside where the ac adapter plugs in so over time it loosens the sauder and eventually the laptop battery will be unable to be charged and basically becomes a big expensive paperweight.

This problem was so prevalent that there was a class action lawsuit in the US because of it that Toshiba lost and the warranty on the models affected was extended till Nov. of this year. The only problem is that they only honored the warranty extension if you bought the laptop in the US, I bought mine in Canada.

They are the exact same product the only difference being the location of purchase. I called their tech support to see if they would honor the warranty up here...I even offered to pay for the labour myself if they just sent me the parts, which they have reinforced since they became aware of the problem. They said no unless I bought my computer in the US they would do nothing.

I then told the guy that even though they acknowledge their product is faulty they will not in good faith fix the problem. He just kept spewing the same crap "Unless you bought the computer in the US they will do nothing" The tech support guy was no help at all and rude on top of it, he eventually hung up on me.

I ended up doing some minor sauder repairs to the ac adapter and the motherboard myself and the comp lasted for a few more months before it died for good.

Anyone that I have known has had problems with their Toshiba laptops. When they are working the performance is ok but my advice if going for Toshiba is to get the most warranty coverage that you can because there is no doubt that you will need it.

The laptop I got to replace the Toshiba is a Dell. I ordered it online to my specs. The price was very reasonable and I called tech support to see if they could install XP instead of the Vista that it comes with as I was not sure if all my programs will run on Vista, and have heard a lot of people aren't all that happy with Vista. The tech support lady said that all parts etc. had already been sent to the build floor and if I had contacted them right away after ordering they could've done it but I had waited a week or so. I was told that when I received the computer if I called them they would hook me up with a downgrade to XP, but I have had no problems with Vista.

I hope that helps you out in making your decision, good luck.

I've been rocking my dell laptop for coming up to 3 years now, this thing kicks serious ass...not had one problem with it, travelling all over, using it in extreme heat (australia), extreme cold (canada lol) it just refuses to fall over.

When I get another laptop, it will be Dell, 100%. they rule

They are not the lowest cost machine like Dell is but there is a reason for that

Before your one year time frame or right after watch out.
The battery will go on your dell.
We had a few in the office and all had issues with the batteries around the one year time frame.
