Netcape 9 comes with Gator installed.

Had a surfer email us saying he couldn't get to one of our sites. He said he was using Netscape 9. I did some testing and found out that Netscape 9 comes with Gator installed. Gator is one of the adware programs we redirect to a adware/spyware removal page. Netscape users are less than 1% of our traffic so I'm not worried about it.
I'm surprised that a browser that used to be the big boy on the web is now including Gator without alerting surfers before they download it. I guess when they are such a small % compared to IE and Firefox they will resort to this to make money.

I'm sure they alert the surfers, but nobody ever reads the terms or any shit like that...they just accept the default install and keep clicking "yes, yes, yes"

On the Netscape main page there is a DOWNLOAD link with no terms or any info on what is in it. Once you start the install there is a License Agreement. Nowhere in it does it say Gator is included.

This is the closest info I see and it is pretty vague:

The Mozilla foundation (group behind the open source development of Firefox) was started by Netscape and shares a lot of developers. In essence, Netscape still funds a lot of Firefox development.

            Shrug.

I highly doubt Netscape has scumware installed.

Someone probably bundled it within their own installer and called it something like 'getnetscape.com' for the $0.75/install they get.

                  Probably somebody on this board.

It hasn't been called Navigator since version 3. They just went back to it for version 9. That is why it has been working with older versions.

Killing on user agent is such a bad idea. I didn't know anybody was doing that, anymore.
