well, this is what happens when your nerves happen to be closer to the surface of the skin than everyone else. i suffered a nerve compression injury that resulted in total hand paralysis (all 3 main hand nerve groups - median, ulnar, and radial) from the rope involved in a shibari rope bondage full suspension (in the air, crank-lifted up from the ceiling). 
physical therapy and occupational therapy 2x/week and hand & finger exercises to retrain them how to work 4x/day. depending on where the nerve bundle was compressed (which we won't know until after the electroshock study in 6 weeks) it will take anywhere from 2 months to 2 years to regain complete function of my hand.
currently i can't drive, bathe, groom or feed myself half of the time and require help - though this nifty new splint is helping isolate my fingers so i can relearn typing again. i haven't decided yet if i should turn it into a musical instrument or a weapon.
please be patient with me if i do not respond to your IM's & e-mails as quickly as you or i would like, it's a bit tough relearning how to use my hand all over again.
