    Sales rep question. A bunch of opinions needed!

    One europe based program needs a sales rep for english speaking market who is supposed to:

    - advertise and represent company and it's products on webmaster boards
    - contact people personally via ICQ or other messengers offering our services
    - be in community, build respect for company develop and run special campaigns like thread contests or buying signatures on boards etc..
    - everything connected to english somehow...write english ads messages, email messages, text for sites... fix broken english written by other employees etc.
    Thus there are two options:
    1. Hire a native speaker (in US)
    2. Hire a person with good en language skills

    So the question is which way to go and why
    AND
    how much will the US sales rep with good skills and experience cost?

    I need a bunch of opinions (not 2 or 3 please), pros and cons.

      Easy Answer: Since you are wanting the person to be involved in the community, and active in the US market, all things being equal in qualifications, take the US based native rep.

      You will save on moving costs, travel, etc.

      Bonus points if the US rep has other language skills.

          Thank you, Craig. But it's supposed that no travel costs needed. Actually it's all about remote job, online promotions and communication.

              I think it will be easier overall to have a states based rep who speaks native english..just an opinion tho..

                          Even with that in mind, understanding the nuances of the language, culture, holidays, and certainly the time zones will help a US based rep.

                          That said, it isn't mandatory, and there are a lot of good non US based reps in the adult arena.

                          If I was targeting a foreign country, I would want it as easy as possible for my rep to be seen and heard easily, and would certainly look for someone from that country to help me know the market well.

                                  Excellent point I think. There's a number of programs with US sales reps and it seems to me they do a great job. But I really have no idea of what they get paid. Is it shares or flat rate payment? Does anyone here know how much they pay a sales rep in US?

                                          I am slightly biased on this question

                                          I am English, live in Spain and work for a US company.

                                          Good English is important - but focus on comprehension. A lot of overseas reps have great written English - but often they cant understand the point that is being made.

                                          Anybody you take on as rep will be experienced in the industry so they will be used to working strange hours to fit in with US timezones.

                                          I will take the fifth on the subject of salary.

                                                  Ok, so the gist of what I read above is:
                                                  - language
                                                  - cultural mutuality

                                                  But it's money issue on the other hand. Will the two points above outnumber the payment which is surely supposed to be bigger for US (english as native lang) rep than that of a european one?
                                                  And again, what is considered to be a good payment for US rep if we don't take giving shares into account? Will it be $2.000 or $5.000 or $10k a month for an experienced native language rep with good online promotion skills?
