bukowski a nazi?
Tags: None -
Each might need to draw its own conclusion through its writing. On some short stories ive read he gives some sort of explanation of some early affiliation but thats it.
This one is a good insighfull read: http://www.hollywoodinvestigator.com/2003/bukowski1.htm

Most likely there is a monetary issue here. The owner will be better off if this house is not made into a landmark. Accusing someone of being a Nazi is an easy way to discredit someone.

Of course the average knuckle-dragging human falls for this type of slander the majority of the time.Last edited by reaching_into_the_muck; 11-30-2007, 07:34 PM.Comment

Bukowski was a gentleman and a scholar, went to church twice a week, hung out with nuns and preachers most of the time, helped little old ladies across the streets, listened to classical music, was clean and sober, didn't need no 12 steps because he never took a wrong step. No way was he a nazi. The man was a saint.
Ah, the impossibility of being human.

Almost the exact same things could have been said about Hitler. (not saying he is a nazi, just pointing out the flawed logic)

Fuck man, it's a ridiculous proposition. It's like saying Terrel Owens studies John Milton. I mean, come on, the guy drank 24 fucking hours a day. He might have done some Nazi shit at one time but the fucker probably did EVERYTHING at least once. Pity his fucking cats when he was feeling freaky for godsakes. He was a great poet, an awesome storyteller and a phenomenal drunk. Those were his passions, that and whores and gambling. The rest was a hangover.

I've read a few books (short stories / poems) of his, a few times over, and can't remember any mention of Nazi or any leanings thereof. I find it funny the chick and her lawyer are Jewish though.... well sad, actually.
"For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command or faith a dictum. I am my own God. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us."

Charles Bukowski was an American poet who owed the hair on his balls if not his balls themselves to his translators. He was rarely taught at universities until after he died. He loved classical music, booze, gambling, and classical music. He was a violent beast of a human being, and he was the greatest American poet to every puke in a baby grand piano.
He spent part of his life homeless. But when he made it, he made it big, especially in Europe and around the world. He was unique in the sense that he didn't teach at a university, he was disliked by some academics, but he made a fine living writing poetry, which very few Americans do.
He also wrote the movie Barfly, starring Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway.
"I hate people."
"Well I don't know about that. But sometimes I feel better when they're not around."
Something like that. He wrote other lines in his poetry, like, and I'm paraphrasing here: There's shit and death everywhere. Something like that.

Yeah, for all you wondering why a bunch of porn guys are talking about a poet, go track down a copy of:
"Love Is a Dog From Hell"
It's the only book of poetry you'll ever read in a single night. This guy was one of us. Though perhaps a tad bit better with a type writer and more fond of the race track than porn. Still. He did like whores. You gotta give him that.

We got Bukowski and the Marqui De Sade. Take your pick. Bukowski's work is descriptive, imaginative and probably true to life. The Sade's work, for all the hype, has delivered some very boring prose, purple prose, not as good as any everyday writer you'll find on the web.
Oh, yes, I almost forgot about Henry Miller. He was okay tooComment

there is enough treachery, hatred violence absurdity in the average
human being to supply any given army on any given day
and the best at murder are those who preach against it
and the best at hate are those who preach love
and the best at war finally are those who preach peace
those who preach god, need god
those who preach peace do not have peace
those who preach peace do not have love
beware the preachers
beware the knowers
beware those who are always reading books
beware those who either detest poverty
or are proud of it
beware those quick to praise
for they need praise in return
beware those who are quick to censor
they are afraid of what they do not know
beware those who seek constant crowds for
they are nothing alone
beware the average man the average woman
beware their love, their love is average
seeks average
but there is genius in their hatred
there is enough genius in their hatred to kill you
to kill anybody
not wanting solitude
not understanding solitude
they will attempt to destroy anything
that differs from their own
not being able to create art
they will not understand art
they will consider their failure as creators
only as a failure of the world
not being able to love fully
they will believe your love incomplete
and then they will hate you
and their hatred will be perfect
like a shining diamond
like a knife
like a mountain
like a tiger
like hemlock
their finest art
