Why on earth is Eric Claptout in there? Hardly rock...

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 11-30-2007 04:30 PM

So many great guitarists to choose from, but Jimi Hendrix is still the best who ever lived in my opinion...

Who was that teenager several years ago who had a video online of him playing that was really popular? This was before YouTube. Everyone wondered why he wasn't in a band, and he had said he didn't want the attention (although I recall video of him playing on stage somewhere).

It's not this guy either. They only recently tracked him down...

It was someone else.

have to go with Joe Satriani here.... his riffs are amazing and have trance effect to them.

dready 11-30-2007 04:37 PM

Jimi is taking this one home!

Far-L 11-30-2007 04:43 PM

Add Winter to the Page, Hendrix, Clapton et.al. list of players that have publicly acknowledged that they stand in awe of Buddy Guy and owe a debt to his influence.

Prairiegrrl 11-30-2007 04:51 PM

As a huge fan of the guitar/guitarist I cannot possible decide as there is too much talent out there to narrow it down to just one. :2 cents:

How can you choose between Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Hendrix etc? Where are the Allman Brothers and Lynrd Skynrd lol... There is no 'best' one, just the one you feel like listening to at any given moment I think. Once they reach a certain level it's just a matter of deciding which flavor you want.

This needed to be quoted again. Nailed it! :thumbsup

If you put this poll to the other 19 guitar players on the list,i'd bet they all vote for Hendrix

Twisted Dave 11-30-2007 05:00 PM

Slash ...

he outdoes Page and Perry in what they do ... and just because Hendrix pioneered a load of shit ... doesn't mean he's the best. That annoys the fuck out of me.

Slash. Hands down.

dready 11-30-2007 05:03 PM

Okay, just for you, a clip of Buddy Guy doing a cover of Hendrix's "Red House" (along with Vernon Reid from Living Colour).

Watch close and you can see a cut away video of Hendrix at a nightclub watching Buddy Guy play:

Then maybe leave out #20, and put in "Other (explain below)" next time. :winkwink:

Hendrix was my pick - and seems to be the current favorite.

BlondeBecks 11-30-2007 05:09 PM

Jimi Hendrix playing the "Star Spangled Banner" on his electric guitar is what came to mind for me when I did my voting........Classic!!!

Yeah, there are some good rare Hendrix and Buddy Guy clips at YouTube.

I'm a huge Hendrix fan - here's a model with my white Fender Strat:

Steve Perry is a singer. He plays a little bass and a little drums but isn't a lead guitar guy.

Did you perhaps mean Joe Perry?

If you were looking for the standout guy from Journey that'd be Neal Schon.

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 11-30-2007 05:50 PM

Some other guitarists deserving of mention include Jeff Beck, John McLaughlin, Rory Gallagher, Ry Cooder, Robin Trower, Adrian Belew, Michael Shenker, Dave Navarro, Kim Thayil, and Steve Howe.

And one of my favorite all-time songs featuring guitar, remains Jimmy Page playing "Since I've Been Loving You".

When you get to Seattle then make sure to check out Paul Allen's collection of Hendrix memorabilia at the EMP...

I've already seen it, but will probably check it again. The coolest thing was they show some pages from one of Hendrix's diaries. I had not been aware that he kept a diary until seeing it on display there.

I highly recommend that anyone visiting Seattle check out the Experience Music Project.

You can easily spend all day there...

great pick, proves some people on this site do actually have a clue. He lost me though after he got together with worst singer of all times - Chris Cornell. RATM kicked major ass, Audioslave had awesome guitar riffs - just as could be expected from Tom Morello, but the most irritating voice in the universe spoilt everything...

CaptainHowdy 11-30-2007 07:24 PM

Pete Townshend is my all time favorite... right now I'm loving Bob Mould.
