If you add a link on wikipedia and its not a spam but purely informational, does the links get followed by google?

Also if the link disappears from Wikipedia is that only due to the act of someone else deleting it or is there some kind of auto remove of a link?

Someone deleting it, there is a lot of reviewers online at all time, removing everything you add.

Editing wikipedia is basically being an editor for a minute or two.

it's not followed by google. They add rel="nofollow" to all external links so it will NOT boost your PR juice, however thanks to high traffic, your link will get introduced to tons of people so some one may end up linking to you - hence secondary juice as result is possible.

If link disappeared, someone else removed it.

Wikipedia does not send a lot of traffic, but their external links do get indexed and it helps a lot for SEO. I had one site about brothels and prostitution listed there for 2 or 3 years. However, Wikipedia started to clean out links to commercial sites (pages that have adult ads) so I got kicked out. My google traffic for related keywords went down dramatically after my link disappeared from Wikipedia. I think I lost like 3k daily google hits.

That must have been before they implemented the nofollow tag - which was in the beginning of this year. Before that, all external links counted and google would have considered them each as a vote for your site by an authority site. Now the no follow link tells search engine bots that this link no longer gets their vote, it's just there... It will deliver some traffic, but it will no longer help with your google standing.

Someone keeps deleting my links which are completely relevant content links, purely informational and obviously not spam.

How do you stop this happening?

I think it was March when they cleaned up their external links and I did not bother to look into it afterwards. It was more or less obvious that they just want to link to non-commercial sites. If Wikipedia is using the nofollow tag they are hurting their own rankings as outgoing links to content sites do help a lot in search engine positioning.

But: ..... I heard rumors that Google ignores the nofollow tag.

wikipedia even has bots that will sometimes just go in and remove things people post, especially if they have no history of the IP and the person just added a link or something like that.
