If he did it, he deserves jail time. Period. Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time.

Out of all the posts made about this on all the websites out there I have yet to hear an account of what actually happened by someone that was actually there. All the remarks being made are by people making assumptions from viewing an edited video made by a profesional photographer.

It could be real as all the elements are there to be factual but it also could be faked by a talented photographer creating some fantasy entertainment that was taken too seriously.

There are other cars on the road in the video but us viewers don't know who they are just by watching the video. They could be the general public, which most everyone assumes but they could be spotters for the speed run or carrying more photographers but that video wasn't used.

On autoblog.com someone said the remark the driver made about not seeing the guy was not about the car he passed but about his photographer that was setup on the other side of the road.

My point is that an edited video shouldn't be used in an arrest or court case because it has lost it's integrity unlike a video surveillance tape. I'm thinking someone doing this would have to be caught in the act to be arrested.

To answer your questions,

1. I don't think someone driving in a car or just standing by the road makes a credible witness. I was thinking more of someone who was actually in the car and witnessed the actual recorded speed.

2. I don't know anything about the data recorder but if it can be tampered with than just showing a video of the numbers proves nothing. Perhaps he hit 171 mph some other time under different circumstances, filmed it and then edited the clip into this video.

Some of these arguments are hilarious, don't you think?

He owns and posts the video to a website called 205mph.com what do you think that stands for? his area code perhaps?

I wouldn't think that running a site that is about going super fast would be bad, but yeah those videos (more than just this one) kind of support the whole premise. Otherwise why not have a site called waycoolsexyexoticautos.com or some shit like that?

I think he likes to drive fast, plain and simple. I don't think he edited the video. That would defeat the purpose and eventually the real world people he is trying to impress would call him a fraud. Probably more of a punishment to him mentally than getting caught for speeding.

I'm not trying to defend him and I personally believe it happend pretty much how it appears on the video. I'm wondering how this video could be used against him in court given the reasonable doubt I've addressed. As a photographer I find this issue pertinent and I wish to learn from his mistake and not duplicate it.

You planning on going out and driving over 200mph yourself? LOL

Don't know.... I haven't played Perry Mason for a long time. I would bet the police will have fun looking for it though. It probably burned up sometime around the point the 205mph site went offline.

NO FUCKING WAY He is gonna erase the original. He will do his best to hide it, (unless he is a complete idiot it will never surface). Erasing the only actual proof of his "accomplishment" is the last thing on his mind.

It is not likely this would ever see trial, a plea at best. Fact is, unless one of the people there decides to testify against him he is safe. He just better plan on paying them a nice "bonus" this year.

I am presuming (I have no idea obviously) that at least some of his wealth came from his dentistry practice.

That could take a serious hit with the shitstorm that is erupting around him right about now.

He was a dentist, he doesn't practice any more, and none of his wealth came from being a dentist.

I wish the guy luck. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes at all.

well we know Rob can afford the fines, But this can get ugly, Good Luck rob

Teaches you not to post videos of illegal shit online, All it does is get you caught up in shit you dont want to have to deal with.

and as Airek said who cares, its Rob's life he knows what he was getting into :)

You are forgetting that what he done put at risk anybody that was on the highway at the time.

Everyone is a great outstanding driver...until the day things go wrong (and with stuff like this its just a matter of time) :2 cents:

No drunk driving and driving this fast are both dumb, drunk driving should never be done, driving 219MPH should ONLY be done in a closed off race track

BVF 11-29-2007 07:36 AM

aw man...the media went to his house and knocked on his door? They showed his name and his picture too?

Jman 11-29-2007 07:47 AM

Man after reading these posts about Rob it's CLEAR there's a lot of idiots out there. Biggest one being Rob himself.

Speed and fast cars are cool but on a freeway with other cars riding on it you have to be a complete MORON to do what Rob did, go use a track ASSCLOWN.

And for those who think this stunt was cool, well I sure hope none of you lose a friend or a loved one in a highway car accident that implies a stupid rich kid wanting to impress his friends by driving recklessly.

I hope Rob gets what he deserves and they try to make an example out of this case.

Wolfy 11-29-2007 07:56 AM

I can't wait till they release the 205mph.com site... and Rob redirects it to ftvgirls.com.

You guys are all nuts if you think anything will stick here. The guy can obviously afford a half decent lawyer. Case closed.

LadyMischief 11-29-2007 08:08 AM

I don't know too many people with fast cars who don't drive a little too fast or dangerously now and again. Hopefully though, this will be a good lesson to people :)

Rob's business is just starting to get attention. This has got to be the worst backfire ever. I personally don't fault him too much for the actual incident of driving that fast, I never understood why people are so upset about speeding but so forgiving about (IMHO) far more serious issues. I've heard of people going to jail for racing, and I've seen burglars get off with probation -- total insanity to me. Bottom line was no one was hurt, and he had some fun. On the other hand, the video including his picture and license plate, on his personal domain, was probably a bad idea :(

Hopefully they don't go to hard on him, I wish him the best of luck...

This whole situation just really sucks all around.

To those who are strongly hating on him for doing this, I understand why you think that way and won't try and convince you any other way. I fully understand that anyone who thinks this is OK will never be able to convince someone who does not think this is OK.

Have ya looked at the video? Word might be one thing.. but face and voice is another... it's easy to recognize it's him

Besides... if it were me, I wouldn't shy away from the media if it were someone else driving, that's for sure. I would have been on the next newscast talking to the reporter. Innocent people have nothing to hide and being cooperative makes them look even more innocent.

No sir.. wasn't me. Was a friend of mine and he's talking to the authorities about it right now. Was a bad idea to let him borrow the car.

Sebastian Sands 11-29-2007 11:12 AM

tricky situation, I saw the video and have done some serious speeds back in Holland. And if you go that fast the stripes on the road look like one solid line, the trees on the side of the road look like a solid wall. In this video it does not appear like that.

Good points, but the one thing that's coming to light is his dental career is being attached to it.

You have got to think he wants to play dentist again in the future. I don't think anyone out there looks at this as career choice to ultimate retirement.

With the internet, archiving, etc., this is something that lives forever and when Little Ms. Johnson starts looking at her dentist referral and googling to make sure he hasn't done anything inappropriate before sitting in that chair.... poof... loss of business... word of mouth will kill ya.

He went fast... he'll pay the piper in whatever way the piper wants to get paid... but this is something that will affect the future just because of how it's being played out. No one will care in the future that he went over 200 on the road.. but you just can't imagine there are a lot of patients that want a porn shooting doctor working on them.

Street racing is kids drag racing on surface streets with other innocent cars all around. That's dangerous.

Driving an exotic car on an empty freeway in the middle of the night is a totally different thing.
