As someone who has dealt with this stuff first hand homicide detectives don't care about the family's feelings. Part of their job is to dig up and search out every dirty deed a person did in their life to see if it in some way connects to the current case. They go through everything in the home, everything on the hard drive, and then they shove it all in your face and monitor your reaction. It sucks, but it is what it is. :(
