I have just always served. Around 90 percent of the time I swear it is just a simple drug case that rarely lasts more than a day. Oddly I get dismissed with most drug cases though since it is well known around my city how involved I was in passing the medical marijuana laws which they equate to being soft on drugs. Not to mention I have personally met with almost all of the decent lawyers who take on drug cases so again that often gets me tossed.

Yet if your business would really have bad hardship if you would be gone for more than a day or two and you must get out of it. First just try to claim hardship and that often can work. Next if you do know a doctor they can write a note and get you out of jury duty for life. Then some easy excuses are ones like that you do not believe in the drug laws. That you personally believe in the old testament of an eye for an eye. You may also act like you REALLY REALLY want to serve on that jury, this one scares someone all the time. Then the never fail one is just saying that you recall seeing the defendant in a McDonald's awhile back talking about something real quiet like and he/she gave you the creeps.

Though like I said I just rather serve. It actually can be a very interesting process and the last time I did I was glad to be their or that dude would of gotten his third strike.

Your defense attorney may have to present evidence according to intellectual demographics: roll dice man......

good point

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure around here they issue an arrest warrant for you if you don't show up. Have you been pulled over by the police lately? I wouldn't be surprised if they don't lock you up the next time you get yanked.

edit: Actually I just checked and it looks like they just give you a small fine in most cases.

down here they will cite you for contempt of court and they can issue a warrent for your arrest

im not going to deal with that

I have a unique idea. Rather than be like 90% of the selfish whiney ass bitches on GFY who don't appreciate their U.S. citizenship, and also assume that THEIR time is more valuable than everyone else's; why don't you show up and do your civic duty without complaining? There's a good chance you won't get picked as they always call in many more than are actually needed on any given day.

Just do it!

Last time I had jury duty the judge lit into the first guy whom came up with some lame ass excuse. She belittled that fucker too death was pretty damn funny. Smart judge too, because no one else had any lame ass excuses for why they couldn't serve.

Sysgenix 11-24-2007 09:48 PM

I just didn't show up last time I was asked. In our part of the country they don't have penalties for it.

Cory made a good point.

Matt 26z 11-25-2007 06:34 AM

Show up 30 minutes late. I've done this twice and I was dismissed immediately.

Peaches 11-25-2007 12:06 PM

I would love to serve but can't get asked for the life of me. In the almost 30 years I've been registered I've been called twice: First time was 25 or so years ago and they sent the info to my Dad's address even though I had moved to a different county. Since I had moved, I wasn't eligible. Second time was 21 years ago and I had just been in an accident and was homebound for 3 months in a cast from my toes to my thigh. No one's asked since :( I thought living in a small town I'd surely get asked. Nope - my neighbor has been called 3 times SINCE I MOVED HERE. Me, nothing.

Don't try to shirk it. It might be an interesting educational experience.

Fizzgig 11-25-2007 04:24 PM

My husband moved to another country. They found the excuse acceptable.

I also get a medical excuse, but I'd rather be able to serve jury duty than to suffer from the chronic disorder that gets me excused.

Bill8 11-25-2007 09:24 PM

Register as a libertarian, and they won't ask you to do jury duty in the first place.

works in my neck of the woods.
