Opening an American bank account from Canada

Do you guys know any banks who let Canadians open a bank account over the phone... If there is no way to do that then, which bank would you recommend for me ? The purpose of this bank account will be to withdraw Paypal USD money without having to convert to CAD...

Any recommendation will be highly appreciated !

CIBC has USD accounts but you can't withdraw unless you go IN in person!

I think he means an actual account in a bank physically located in the US ... not a US$ account in Canada.

Since 9-11 , it is harder to open an account. I have one with the TD Bank North, that was before the TD USA and before the TD Waterhouse ....

See with the TD if you can do that. Mine was opened on line, but before Christ, oups .. I mean before 9-11 ....
I know that Asspimple is stoopid ... As he says, it is a FACT !

But I can't figure out how he can breathe or type , at the same time ....

I have a USD account at BMO. They wouldn't let me open it over the phone though. Had to go to my local branch and provide some ID, sign some forms etc.. You know what sucks though? I can't deposit US checks via the ATM, which makes no sense to me...

No. Like directfiesta mentioned, what I meant was not how to open a USD$ account in Canada (which I already have). My question is how to open a bank account IN the United States (preferrably by phone/internet). Apparently, Paypal doesn't allow to withdraw in a USD$ account if it's a Canadian bank. I really need to have an american bank account... Any suggestions ? Will I have to cross the border or is it possible to do it by phone ?

I don't think Americans can open accounts over the phone. If you haven't done business before there is no way around signature cards.
