Video Cameras- Lens Question....

I was sitting here thinking, and and now I want an answer,

Why couldn't someone just design a Video camera that could use standard 35mm Lens from say Nikon or Cannon? What would be the reason for not being able to use the same glass that you use on your camera for your video camera?

To me, it just seems to make sense that you could be utilizing some of the extra glass in your photo-bag, and have MUCH better lens on your camcorder than what they normally come with.

So what's the reason no one has designed a video camera that could use my photo lens?

Ive been wondering about something i just read,,,

i read you can take a good telephoto lens, buy this attachment that mounts it backwards ....

converts a telephoto into a macro lens... simply by turning it around...

anyone have any experience with this? does it work well or at all?

Canon lenses do mount on the XL2 with their converter, but they also then become rated due to the conversion factor. My 300mm 2.8 lens would be like a 2400mm or something ridiculous like that. It has to do with the size of the sensor in the video camera 1/3" CCD vs the sensor in the still camera if I remember correctly.

Canon has been doing that for at least 17 years.

Photo lens donèt have a server zoom .. which is needed to give you a smooth zoom .. if you have say a canon xl1 or xl2 they will take canon photo lens .. as primes only! ... for a un experienced cameraman tracking a manual zoom is pretty much near impossible ...

does that answer your question as to why more companies don t offer Primes for video cameras

and as far as i can remember the L2 was the only camera that took primes ...

btw the xl s were based on the L1 and 2 design for ergomics ... quickly followed by the HL for hd .. toppin off at a mear 11 000$ for an HDV camera that accepts primes .. far from being worth while in my opinion

The L2 is what I was referring to. I used to sell them when I was 16-17 y/o and I'm 33 now so they've been out for awhile.
