Not really a knock at nats but....

Why is it that so many sites end up showing odd errors all the time that are running nats. Apparently the emails I get back are that they needed to restart the server, or some database messed up, or whatever other excuse they can explain to me in laymans terms.

I am only asking cause it seems to just pop up on me anytime I go looking for new promo material or some random reason to go visit one of the many sponsors. Seems to hit me about once out of every four random visits.

If 80% of the population had the same exact car on the streets do you think you'd see that car broken down more than others? Same thing with Nats, everybody and there momma uses them so of course you'll see more errors. I cant even remember the last time I saw someone using mansions affiliate software but if everybody used them instead of Nats this message would probably be about them instead.

Like I said it really is not a knock against nats per say. Well unless it is due to the license issue and the server reboot.

I just have been dealing with a lot of sponsors and not all use nats. Some use some custom stuff and some just use assorted little ccbill add on scripts. Oh I am sure some also maybe use MPA or something as well. I just only seem to run into these issues with programs running nats.

I also do not visit my sponsors daily or even weekly that often. Yet I get errors often enough to warrant this thread. I am just more curious if it is just a individual setup issue or something else. I hate downtime and when I am visiting some sponsor I really hate getting hit by some error. Cause often I will just move on down the list and not update that given sponsor until next time I go looking for more material.

I'm pretty sure NATS is not very gentle on their servers.

But there are about a thousand and one explanations why a server would have problems, and so the probability that it is a coincidence could be pretty high.

The main issues you run into are due to the fact that NATS is customized to hell for virtually every site it runs on.

Old templates are usually the biggest problem, as they reference old codes, custom smarty functions, etc.

The only thing I can agree with is the license issue.

Due to the way Zend works, you need to actually STOP Apache, wait for the lingering processes to die, then restart it. 10 seconds of downtime is too long.

..but I will blame TMM for not removing the license restriction for outright purchased copies. They will create a 6-months-out license, but that's still twice a year you need to down it.

infact now that i think about it , i have about 10 top sponsors and 4 of them use nats , and i have seen nats errors on all of them and i can't remember ever seeing an error on any of the 6 others. ever. Once in awhile they are down but never see any errors.. even the downtime wouldnt compare ( assuming the others just are dead instead of showing errors )

but that being said when i do see errors on nats it usually doesnt last long

CCBill doesn't run a fucking thing on your machine. Two scripts that set and read cookies do not equate NATS.

Thats just the licensing issue if you buy the program, most rent.

I am not much of a fan of NATS. I dislike the way it displays stats. But other than that, I have not seen too many issues out of it.
