TAX our way out of Global warming?

What do you think of this idea?

http://www.news.com/8301-11128_3-981...=2547-1_3-0-20

Excerpt:
"Technological change will not necessarily reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Energy taxes or a system of caps on energy use and trade in emissions permits are necessary," Eckaus said in a statement. "There is no a priori reason to think technology has the potential for reducing energy use while meeting the tests of economics. It's politically unappetizing in the U.S., but in Europe, gas costs $6 a gallon. Make energy more expensive: People will use less of it."

Agree 100%

Tax the shit out of it, and put the money towards credits and rebates for energy efficiency.

It's not exactly a new idea.. 90% of the developed world has been doing it for years now... well.. basically everyone except the US and Australia. I think most people would agree with it because it's the way it is in most places.

i dunno just doesn't make sense to me, i would think having a renewable energy source thats green would make more sense then just taxing the people and limiting the amount of energy we are allowed to consume. think about it so we cap our energy use and get taxed, were still globally pumping god only knows how much shit into our atmosphere you don't think after a prolonged period of time that this will still have a negative effect on our planet?

i think this is definitely the wrong direction to go in... why is the answer always tax the people what the fuck will that do but put more of a burden on the people's wallets.

Global warming is just another way to scare you out of your money.

Christians has gays and Muslims
Science has global warming and the rain forest.

Good point. I went on vacation in England in 2001and was quite shocked at the taxes on gas. I think in California the tax on gas is like .9 of 1 cent or something like that. I see the point of the Europeans' tax on gas though--to diminish demand and push people toward public transport. It would apply/might be beneficial in some parts of the US but probably not across the board.
