uptime is kind of retarded, but:

# uptime
12:18AM up 1758 days, 9:03, 1 user, load averages: 0.49, 0.40, 0.10
#

had to physically move, otherwise it would have an additional 3 years.

Load of .5 from logging in? Linksys? That doesn't count.

LOL. I currently do server moves pretty often so I only have 100 days on my main box... so it's no real record.

Word. Used a P133@120Mhz (old mobo incapable of proper clocking), running a really hacked up FreeBSD 3.5.1+4_NETLINK as a squid proxy, irc server, streaming video webserver, and file storage with huge old seagate HDs through '02. Lasted forever. Prolinea 5100, I seem to recall.

don't you ever do any os updates or anything? isn't it kinda unsecure to have an uptime that long without a kernel upgrade?

I was around 500 days with one of my servers recently, I finally broke down and upgraded the kernel.

That's why uptimes are kind of retarded :) This machine isn't doing anything important, so it's more fun to just see how long it can go.

There's very few remote kernel exploits though, I can't even remember the last one. As long as you keep applications updated/patched and don't have unneccessary services running, you're going to to be fine. I'd bet on a 10 year old kernel with no open ports over a freshly updated selinux machine with wordpress any day of the week.
