why do newbie webmaster type their icq xxx-xxx instead of xxxxxx ?!

there must be some simple answer to this important question... :)

My first thought was it's easier to read them. But who cares about that as it's not numbers you need to remember. You only copy and paste them... and my fucking icq client can't read those "-" so I need to manually edit before I add one of those xxx-xxx-xxx uin:s.

It's because the newer ICQ versions write it this way to make it simpler for fucking idiots. And, noobs didn't have ICQ back in the good old days when there were no dashes... ;)

It is meant to stop spammers getting ICQ numbers with bots from web pages.....

At least that what I thought it was about.

I think that's because mainly the noobs copy & paste their Icq from the software which shows with dashes and paste them directly into their profile.

Personnally, I never had problems with looking up somebody using a number with dashes.

I use dashes or spaces with phone numbers as well.

I write them the way my own processes them.. in groupings of 3 or 4.

I see some people even type something like: one 567 two 987
They did that in case of spam protection

Dots, dashes or spaces, I don't really care if my need is to make the contact. And vice versa should be the same.

I always found that pretty annoying too... It's not like a phone number where you have to read it off the screen and punch it in your phone, you're just going to copy and paste it into your ICQ client (some of which don't even support the dashes and will require the person to edit it).

One long number for life!

haha, believe it or not I started that like 3 years ago for fear of icq spammers harvesting icq #'s...people asked why I did it back then and that is what I told them and it caught on

I am not positive that it definitely was me that started it, but I don't remember anyone doing it before I did.....funny to see shit catch on first hand though

I am no newbie. I have been using icq since 98 or 99 and I use dashes too even though I have a 6 digit number. It just looks better.
