Did you switch from PC to Mac?

I'm thinking of doing it soon but I wanted to know how I should expect the transition to go.
For those of you who have gone to a Mac, how is it going? Any regrets?

Does Mac do auto updates to the platform like Windows does?

I switched about a year ago, and haven't looked back.

    What to expect...

You will typically HATE the switch at first.. While it's all point & click, you will be so used to the way windows does things, it'll take a good 2 - 3 weeks to feel "at home" with a Mac (at least it did for me)

Finding comparable replacements for Windows programs on a Mac. You'll have a hard time finding the same programs you use on windows for the Mac. Don't give up tho, you'll find replacements, that will run much better, and smoother than they did on windows

OS X auto updates as windows does, but a LOT less frequently, meaning less security problems / patches than windows.

Overall, no regrets, and will never go back to windows, without a serious fight.

Went from PC to Mac a year or so ago and would never go back, I don't really play games and do alot of photoshop and after effects so it's ideal for me.

There's a software update feature on OS X, it'll check all your software and tell you which updates are available. You then decide which you want to update.

I enjoy using both. PC is desktop/work. Mac is laptop/personal.

Yes you will hate it the first week but dont give up. You'll love it after that. I can't even remember how to use a PC anymore.

I switched when OSX first came out. Still have Windows, and even Ubuntu boxes on hand...but most of my work is done strictly on my Macs these days.

              Spend you some brain.

i switched from pc to mac, and i was so skeptical of doing so before i did. in fact, for a while i was against the idea of switching. i took the plunge though, and i will NEVER go back to pc! it took me a very short period of time to get use to it, but once you're dialed in it's a great machine... and you'll probably feel the same way i do about going back to pc... you won't.

You know, you don't need a mac to use those programs, and they don't work any better or worse on a PC. That's a misconception. Most of the film special effects, ad work etc, is done on a PC. I've been using a PC for 13 years to do some pretty stunning 3D animation, 2d, web design that my clients always love.

Plus, when you're using a Mac, it feels like you're shut off from the rest of the computer world and in your own little sphere -- which is great when you worry about virus attacks, but just about sucks in every other aspect.

Seems obvious that it'll take a while to get used to it, but I'm looking forward to the changes.
                            Thanks for the feedback.

All mac recently converted (6 months in) fucking LOVE it! the updates in Leopard are really intelligent as well.

The speed differences alone are incomparable!

I just finished installing Leopard on all of our Macs. One of which is an almost 5 year old Power Mac G4 that use for editing. Loaded up the RAM to 3 gig and it's running 10.5 like it's a brand new. In fact, it runs faster than when it was new.

I don't think my 16 month old PC is juiced up enough to run Vista, good luck running it on 5 year old hardware.

                                        Spend you some brain.

Going from PC to Mac is a few stages:

                                              1) This is fucking cool
                                              2) This is incredibly fucking cool
                                              3) I don't have my games, and I hate this single button thing.
                                              4) Christ, how do I install BootCamp
                                              5) I guess I can live with this
                                              6) God damn this is nice
                                              7) It just fucking works. I'm sold.

I'm an oldschool nerd that went Mac when it went Mach. It was painful, but I got my pretty apps like Photoshop and all of my nerd toys, too. I then sold it because it's a bit difficult to cart a 24" iMac between countries. I still miss my mac.

I'm an oldschool nerd that went Mac when it went Mach. It was painful, but I got my pretty apps like Photoshop and all of my nerd toys, too. I then sold it because it's a bit difficult to cart a 24" iMac between countries. I still miss my mac.
Most of those are outdated. My Apple mouse has two bottons, actually more than 2. Bootcamp COMES INSTALLED. So anyone worry about those and switching really need not worry.

                                                  Spend you some brain.

Have 3 Macs now and 1 XP computer still chugging away in the back ground, it's time is limited though. The only real issue I have come across is a driver issue with the new 10.5 osx and my epson R1800 printer... Hence the need to keep my old xp computer still running. But I know the issue is being worked on and expect an updated driver any day.

What people say is true... the first 3-6 days your going to be a little out of it, but once you understand the little things (like how programs are installed and uninstalled etc), you start to love it. Then you realize that now 2 years has gone by and you have NEVER installed any anti virus or other protection... yet your computer is totally fine... makes you REALLY love it.

I went out a couple weeks ago and bought a mac Mini to use as my entertainment system. bought Eyetv 250 plus for it, run Miro and now it works Just like my old Tivo, I have all my music, movies family pictures and tv shows all at the touch of a button, on ANY computer/TV in my house and even streaming to my Iphone. AND I can control the whole setup using a ATI remote or even my Iphone. The whole setup is so simple to use that my wife learned it in less than 5 minutes.

                                                    Plus it's rock solid...

I did the opposite - I started on Macs - all my first computer experiences were all mac - and I always hated them. Made the switch to PC and will never, ever go back.
