Do you lucid dream?

I'm reading a book right now about various states of consciousness, and there is a whole chapter dedicated to lucid dreaming (becoming aware that you are dreaming and doing whatever the hell you want in your dream).

Does anyone here lucid dream?

Lucid dreaming drives me nuts, because no matter how hard I try, I can't conjure up George Clooney.

I have lucid dreams sometimes. As a matter of fact ever since I have been taking one 3 mcg pill of melatonin before bed combined with three ZMA pills ( a formula of zinc, vit. b-6 and magnesium) I have been having very vivid dreams almost every night that sometimes turn lucid.

I used to take those together and have some very weird dreams. I think it's the ZMA. Whenever I take ZMA I have really strange dreams.

Other times I have lucid dreams is if I take a xanax before bed. I usually only have lucid dreams when I'm taking something to help me sleep.

I wonder what my mind is up to at sleep.. I very rarely remember anything dream-related when I wake up.
Maybe it's plotting on how to take over the world or something ;)

Have them all the time. I've noticed that if I talk about lucid dreaming during the day the frequency of me having one that night goes up greatly.

Just had one last night actually. It's all about practice. There are tons of books and forums dedicated to helping people attain lucidity while asleep.

This is one of the techniques I used to use. I'd set the alarm for some ungodly hour, get up, walk around a bit and do some pushups, then go back to sleep and it almost always triggered an OBE type lucid dream.

I find going to bed really tired does the same thing. You fall asleep so fast you are still conscious during the process. The part that sucks for me a lot of the time is I get so excited once I realize I'm "out" that I wake up back "in" ...game over

I seem to be able to control my dreams when I am having a nightmare. That happens about once a month. If I am being suffocated or chased, I can literally look at myself and put myself in bed and have myself wake up in my dream but I am still dreaming. Basically, I make myself think that I am having a nightmare within my dream and stop it..

So confusing. Anyway, I would love to know what book you are talking about.

Yes it's so difficult to grasp it without alerting whatever part of your brain tries to send you back 'in'.

I've had SO MANY strange OBE experiences. But, they never last long. I've also never got far from my bed. It's so difficult to move, and usually I can't get 'out of my body' fully. I can just sit up or wave my ghostly blue hands in front of my face.

The human brain is such a wonderful and complicated thing. Amazing how 'real' it makes some things seem - then again - it's amazing how 'real' it makes the world seem..

In my opinion, that was worth more than 2 cents:-)

I have before many times, and still occasionally do (tended to more when I was a child, though).

It usually goes down when things are more relaxed in life... and I'll have a flying dream or jumping dream (where I jump real high) or something similar... and then I realize that I must be dreaming.

But, from my personal experience, pinching yourself to check if you're dreaming doesn't work.

Doene that a couple of times, only to have felt my pinch in my dream, too.

i actually have the same thing, i havent had a nightmare for the longest time that i can remember.

but when i used to have them i would realise inside my dream that i was dreaming and that it was going bad, i would then close my eyes in the dream and force open them up so i would wake up.

really hard to explain.

I remember having a lucid dream once and I turned to this dream person I was with and said "Hey, did you know that this is just a dream?" and they were silent for a second, and then they said "of course!".

And then I realized how dumb it was of me to expect any different answer from a character that is a construct of my own mind.

I had a lucid dream where I was dreaming that I was fucking someone (don't remember who). When I told my boyfriend about it the next morning he said that that explains why I was humping his leg in my sleep.

I had a cool one, one night where I realized that everything that everyone in my dream said was actually coming from the same person... me. So I started going around talking to people to see what they would say. I walked up to this one buddy of mine in the dream and asked, "What do you think about this dream man?" he responded, "Fucking Amazing!" LOL, that was a fun one.

it really is hard to explain...and it only happens with nightmares. I wonder why I am the only one who still gets frequent nightmares

I wish I could record some of my lucid dreams on dvd.. they'd make some kick ass movies..

On another note, one night, about maybe 28 years ago, I was sleep walking, went to the kitchen & opened the refrigerator door & then pissed into the fridge

You know, I had some fucking really freaky fucked up dreams before..

Some of them were re-ocurring, or like mini-series, lol..

I hated the ones with the sour milk man.,, he was a faceless, featureless man made of solid sour milk & the fucker would get under the bed & lay on his back & put his feet up under the bed & make it spin around & make me fucking dizzy from the spinning & the smell of sour milk... That one I remembered from my childhood..

Another one, happened a couple times.. I'm in a breezy yellow field walking until I come to where this old man is standing, staring straight up at the sky, so I look up to see what he's looking at & I see myself looking down but then saw what the other me was looking at, which was me looking up, but now I was an old man instead...

and the most fucked up one I remember, I was dreaming that I was laying in bed & my father was strangling me, and so in my dream, and also outloud, I was screaming in my sleep, so my dad came in to wake me up, and when I opened my eyes, I saw just what I saw in my dream, him leaning over me shaking me, but his hands were'nt around my neck, he was shaking me by the shoulders.. that was fucking freaky.

Yeah its a blast. A great way to practice is set your alarm for 4:00am . Then go back to sleep. Never happen during the night but when I go back to sleep for some reason its easier.

You hit the nail on the head. The most lucid dreams occur after you have already slept and then have been woken up. When you go back to sleep again your dreams are much more lucid. Also, if you take naps and have little breaks between them then you will also have a better chance of having more lucid dreams...

I do frequently and I hate it. All the good dreams end with "Shit, I knew it's just a dream" ...and that BEFORE waking up.

I once did a hypnosis to have Lucid Dreams for the rest of my life. Now I'm in a shithole.
