Sultans of Swing (Dire Straits)

I always considered the song the best quarter:minute ratio on the jukebox growing up.

Close. The runtime of the original track is only 5:48

Although you could be thinkinng of the live version witch I believe was much longer.

One "long song" by Dire Straights that I always loved is called Telegraph Road.... it's on incredible tune, and a true long song.

Not a true long song (at least not one over 6 minutes).

Harry Chapin is incredible, and had several amazing long songs. :thumbsup

Just what comes to my mind:

From your list: Layla - that's a massive song including the story behind it..

From Jimi Hendrix - I always liked 1983 / Voodoo Chile / anything from the "Blues" album

From the more recent stuff:

"Three Days" by Jane Addiction or "Just like you" by Rollins band always worked for me

JohnnyJames 11-12-2007 07:55 PM

Star Wars Theme-disco version by Meco. The special edition release had that one tune covering about 28 minutes on an entire album side.

Yea, cheesy as hell now, and probably then, but I was young enough to not care or even know better.

Edit for lack of paying attention

How about "The Mountain Jam" from the Allman Brothers? :)

Don't know any longer tune in the rock history it's over 33 minutes.. but a live take too, true..
