Adult Webmastering 101: Keeping Porn On The World Wide Web

As with with other Adult Webmastering 101 articles that I have posted, this is part of a series of articles aimed at new adult webmasters. More articles for new adult webmasters and other tips can be found on my Adult Webmastering 101 blog which is located in the resource section of the Max Cash affiliate area.

====

One of the beauties of the internet is the way in which it has opened the world up. No longer do we have to be satisfied with what we can find in the confines of the towns in which we live. If we can't find something at home we can just fire up the computer and instantly access nearly everything the world has to offer.

So, when it comes to selling porn on the internet it does make sense that webmasters through out the world cast their nets wide and aim for the largest audience possible. Often this means targeting the large numbers of surfers from the United States. Webmasters based in far flung locations are found trying to make their sites look as 'American' as possible in relation to spellings and culture.

Of course, few of us could afford to totally ignore the earnings potential from appealing to the United States market. However, there can also be profit found in targeting the local markets outside of the United States. All you have to do is use your understanding of the local culture and language to grab that traffic.

This doesn't even mean having to venture much into non-English speaking cultures, though that can be profitable too. There are a good number of nations that have English as their main language and are armed with credit cards that they aren't afraid to use. The United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand are just a few off the top of my head that all speak English. While their cultures may be similar in many ways to the United States even the differences in spellings can help you to target the local traffic.

For example, ever since I moved to the UK, I have had to start using British spellings. So, where I used to spell color as it is spelled in the USA, I now add the 'u' and make it colour. It is just a simple example, but there are a lot of other common words between the countries that have different spellings. There will be a bunch of people searching with those spellings. So, just by using your own spellings rather than automatically spelling for the American audiences could bring you that local traffic.

The differences in language go beyond just spellings too. Every culture as their own frequently used words that are either used differently in other places or aren't used at all. If you take this into consideration you could be attracting yourself a new audience that 'speak your language'. Again, I will use the UK as an example, if you talk about the word 'fanny' in the States you are talking about a childish way of talking about somebodies bottom or ass. However, in the UK the word 'fanny' has a TOTALLY different meaning. It means a woman's genitals ..ie pussy.

You can sell the exact same sites as you would sell the American audiences but just by making the language in your advertising text sound local you will be opening up the possibilities for search engine results and chances are have less competition for those terms too.

Of course, these methods, don't just have to be limited to those webmasters living outside of the United States. The same ideas can be applied to regions within the States. If your local area has its own slang that is widely used then why not throw up some pages using that terminology and try to trap those surfers?

Even on the world wide web it can still pay to keep it local.

I meant the title to be 'Keeping Porn On the World Wide Web Local' but it cut me off. My next lesson should be about proof reading before posting.

Interesting ideas, especially the one about localizing inside the US. As globally connected as we've become, there are still major differences in the language and culture of the south vs. the New York metro area, vs. California. A localized website might not only attract people in that area but might also be a niche of its own. A site full of sweet Georgia peaches vs those high-powered business women of Washington DC.

When I first started I remember there being a lot more regional sites. Stuff like 'The Girls of Miami', and stuff where it was about the models of a certain town.
