Seriously, there are many choices in Australia. You should come out as a visitor first. I've met many Swedish backpackers ( of the female variety :) ) out here, and they love the country. I hear Aussie girls love Swedish guys. I live in Sydney. It is a beautiful city with many fantastic features, however it is now one of the most expensive cities in the world to live. I'm thinking of a life style change and buying a farm ( about 600 ha ) north of Sydney - I can be on cable there, so I wouldn't worry about cable access.

here's a link to a story about the study:

http://www.theage.com.au/news/world/...XVGGO4XOC.html

Australia was ranked #2 ahead of Canada which has been #1 for the previous 6 years.

Sydney might be expensive compared to other Australian cities, but its not very expensive compared to other cities in the rest of the world.

Sydney is great. I live here, but if you wanted to mix it with other adult webmasters, QLD is the place to be.

Regarding hosting content is OZ, I also heard about that no australia host can allow adult content, so I put up an image of a girl showing here tits (nothing much but enough) and within 5 hours my host had left 2 messages on my answering machine warning me to remove it asap or my account would be deleted. from what they told me, someone complained about the image.

Plus why would you want to pay $0.25c per MB (NOT GB), it works out to be $250 AUD per GB, that's around $125 US per gig.
It's a sad sad world.

Brisbane is the online porn capital of the world! no shit!

30 minutes drive down the m1 and your at one of the major tourist destinations in the world--the sunny gold coast!

damn great place to live, plus you get 2 for 1 on the US dollar over here..

Hi
although i am living in Turkey i can answer your questions

First of all australia is a good choice(what i heard from my friends)

You cant host porn in australia host means your server cant be in Australia but you can rent or colocate in other countries.

Internet connection is not too slow not good as like in States

More important thing

What i know in australia you billed by in not out

what this means

For example when you rent a server in states you billed for out

you will have a 1mbit means 300gb out and 40-50 gb in generally

in australia you will be billed for that 40 50 gb and 1gb bandwith will cost you 30 40$ they donot have cogent or yipes:)

well, i live in australia, and i can only really give you a run down on two cities.
brisbane and sydney.
brisbane is fucking small in population, and there is nothing to do there. i live there and it is ok, and the cost of living is low compared to....
sydney, a much larger city, heaps of cool shit there for sure, i go there at least once a year just for a break, the cost of living is very high, epecially things like rent, when compared to bris.

i don't know anything about the others to be able to comment here.

as for immigration, just rock up to the australian embassy, or check this out: http://www.migrationint.com.au/
hope this helps

I moved from Sweden to Australia back in '83.

Melbourne is pretty good. Contrary to what most non-Melbournians think, the weather's usually good, and it rains less here than in Sydney.

Also the Swedish Church is located here. You're probably not into church (and neither am I) but it's much more like a social club than a church thing. Since I moved here, I've never been to a (whatever they call it) mass, but I'm about to organise (for the second time) a christening there, and my brother got married there last year.

Only think is that real estate is a lot more expensive than (most of) Sweden and supermarket prices are more expensive. Petrol is a lot cheaper. On balance, it's only marginally cheaper here than in SWE.

Getting here can be tough. Took me 2 years to get the visa back then. As long as you have the "right" set of skills, you could be lucky.

And lastly... I'd NEVER go back to Sweden to live again instead of here. Despite the cooky John Howard with his tongue up GWB's arse and Australia being like an appended US state ruled by the queen of England. I think it's great!

for all dsl and cable peeps get on the net with these dudes
http://www.iinet.net.au/products/bro...ome/index.html

i pay $149.95 for 4gig download 1.5mbps down and 256kbps up Uploads are not tracked for bw and after 12midnight till 7am all bandwidth is free as in i can download movies and shit with no limits or using any of my quota which is good cause i mainly work at night lol :)

also if ya go over the 4gig limit your dsl just goes to a 56kbps speed so you have no nasty per meg prices but the nite time is still full speed and free so i'm all happy

sp stop ya bitching about telstra and move already iinet kick ass :) oh plus ya get a free national dial up to use if adsl goes down which is awesome..

Matty

p.s. I'm in sydney and this city is the best place in aussie the party never stops in this bity brisbane and GC both close at 7pm i hear lol

I'm paying $100 per month for ADSL 3GB, but the speeds are OK if you're not impatient (capped at 50KB per sec).

I say come to Melbourne...

As far is immigration is concerned, it depends upon your age, etc -but just so long as you apply properly rather than coming in on a boat you should be fine.

Bring over about $600,000 USD if you want a relatively nice house/apartment in Melbourne - or about 1 mill USD if you're looking for something nicer. Sydney is more expensive.

Cheers

:thumbsup

Sydney is not that much more expensive its honestly like 20% more but to live in a city with shit loads to do 24/hrs a day i'd pay the little bit extra :)

i was gonna move up north then i thought honestly 3 fun parks and a beach........lol i need to live in a city with a dodgey train system, bad cops, drug dealers the whole bad city rap is what sydney has but it keeps things interesting :)

BTW to compare rent i pay $240/wk for a 1 year old 3 bedroom house in a good area close to all things like shopping mall etc etc how much cheaper do ya want it i know for sure you want get that price on the gold coast and you prolly wouldnt get that in brisbane either...well maybe in the older areas

so everyone move to sydney and it'll just add to the party :)

hey BTW who is coming down to sydney for new years ? i hear they are burning about 30mil is fireworks this year :))

I agree with your friends.....I have spent time in most of the cities in Australia - but live in Perth.

I host all my sites in the US at Cavecreek.......have a good ADSL connection and am not charged for uploads...

Real estate is inexpensive by comparison to other cities...

I have relatives in every state around Oz, they all comment about Adelaide and its' laid back big country town feel... and how damn cheap it is to live here.

Flinders and Adelaide Uni are well respected for their R&D work.

I've been all over the world, Europe, Asia, USA, etc etc...
I spent 4 weeks living in the Surfers Paradise/Gold Coast last year and decided to move here. it sunny and warm EVERYDAY, we have only had about 15-20 days of rain this year. Winter was a little cold at night and got down to about 12-15 C at night but still clear blue skys all through winter, winter only seemed to last for about 4 weeks and then its back to summer again. If you like the feel of the bigger cities then I'd suggest Brisbane, its only about 1 hour from the gold coast or other beautiful beaches.

I'm from New Zealand orginally and by christ its cold there, Aussie rocks nuh said, 45% tax rate for high earners though :( that realy bites. Oh and you WON'T find a larger number of half dressed hot young girls anywhere...

Internet is fast enough, 256k upload ADSL 1.5 megabit download with 3-5 gigs a month for US$60-120.

Best country to live in the entire world (in my humble oppion) If you can get in do it :)

As far as hosting goes, just don't tell anyone important like the IRS what you do :) Oh and yes only host in USA.

Matt
