influenced by media and the current political discussions ?

i saw a live interview with the german minister of justice a few minutes ago on tv. and i can only say, those (paid ?) journalists suck ! i don`t know why they try to destroy or weaken the political relationship between america and germany, but they do...there were also a few journalists from n.y. times and other us newspapers.
it seemed that the us journalists didn`t understand the discussion the right way, since their german was not so good (and some fucking german journalists confused them). as a dirty result of this, you may read in tomorrows newspapers something like "german minister compares us politicians with a.hitler". but this is bullshit ... and such bullshit doesen`t help anyone.

is your own opinion about foreign countys influenced by such shitty political discussions and do you believe everything what newspapers or tv tell you ?

I'm an American, but I've known a lot of Germans. The main problem is that Germany is a society in which people grow up learning to say whatever is on their mind, no punches pulled, no political correctness, just whatever's on their minds.

Because of this, we Americans tend to take things the wrong way. Whereas the British are over-polite and loquacious, and the Germans say whatever is on their minds with little concern for how it makes someone else "feel", Americans are somewhere in the middle.

With most of the Germans I know, words don't have hidden meanings, and they're not uttered simply to gain a desired response. They're not designed to confuse, they're quite simply, the most honest people I know. Sometimes painfully so.

I think we could learn a thing or two from the Germans about how to REALLY say what's on our minds without being so damn politically correct and WHINEY about it.

germans are notorious for being big time assholes. I haven't heard or read anything good about their personalities ever. I just came from vacation in the Dominican Republic, where Germans go a lot. It's true. They are assholes!

Ok, I'm gonna get FLAMED for this one.

I'm Canadian. Born and bred here. Our culture is a little bit strange beacuse we're close to the US, we do tend to watch a lot of American TV, but I don't like watching the news on american channels. I'm not talking about CNN cause that's like the BBC World, it's the cream of the crop in news. But I'm talking about national or regional news. Sometimes the views are so strange on international happenings that I sit there and shake my head.

One funny show that we have here in Rick Mercer speaks to Americans and this is hilarious. It's basically like Jay Leno's "Jay Walking" thing. But he talks to people in top Universities and all that stuff. One that was too funny was when he talked to a Professor of International Politics. He asked something like "Did you hear that Canada's Prime Minister Tim Horton got a double double?"which is a joke on a comercial for a donut shop. The Professor never clues in that Canada's Prime Minister name is not Tim Horton.

It's just a whole joke on what we believe Americans think of the world.

germans that are for holidays in the dominican republic, are 99% assholes, cause these are guys that heared somewhere, you can have a girl for a week for only a few bucks and shit like that....they only mess around, drink more alcohol than they can take, and pester the girls in a bad way.....
you find the same germans in ibiza, czech republik, hungary or thailand, ....
sometimes it hurts guys like me, to see those mofu`s. i have grown up in a town, were the allied forces had some of their military basements nearby. most of those people moved back to their countrys after 1989, but we are still influenced by their way of life and i think we learned a lot (of course there were also stupid ones who didn`t).

i`m glad to have no such stupid assholes as friends.
i`m satisfied as long as a kewl drum n bass liveset or sum chilli reggae or hip-hop stuff runs on my cdplayer and i can smoke a pot or two with guys that are sum kinda relaxed too (and no matter were they come from)....

and have a bbq is always nice too....

of course i am influenced by the media, now let me say something about germany: at the moment, the average german seems pretty cool to me, they are very self critical towards their country, almost too critical. what i dont like is the new attitude of some politicians who want to send troops to all kinda war-regions. after the 2nd WW it was somehow said "never ever german troops abroad again", this seems to be past now.

as swiss guy from the german part of switzerland i have a special relationship to germany anyway: tv programs, at least the private ones, are dominated by the germans like almost everything, i guess the german like us, but they like us the way you like your younger brother, and we dont like this. Therefore a lot of swiss people do not like the germans much, although its getting better ;))

something else: IF YOU REALLY DO NOT LIKE SOME NATION hit someone on icq from that country and you will be astonished. i hope stuff like icq will help prevent war in future as many people just wont believe anymore that an entire nation is evil.

...the self critic has also often to do with the 2nd ww. many germans are afraid to say "i love my country" or "i`m proud to be a german" because they think people call them "nazi" for this. as a child you have tons of lessons in politics, were teachers tell you "you have to be ashamed for your nationality beacause odf the 2nd ww". i remember when we were in france with our school class, i was about 10 years or something.....we were in a museum, and there was also a french class. the first thing they screamed after they were told, that we are from germany was "nazi nazi nazi" "get out of our country you hitler children" and shit like that. hell, do they think we are proud for what has happened ? ... in no way !!! but what now ? should i hate my grandfather for this ? he told me many terrible storys about his time during the second ww. my uncle was slaughtered as a child, because my grandfather did`t want to fight for this insane hitler shit.....
but i stop right here with this.....don`t want to talk about this any more.

i have often been on boat party`s at the "bodensee" and also met many swiss people there. and those i talked to were pretty "relaxed" and i still meet some of them when i`m in zürich...and hell, they have always the best weed with them
