APC Smart UPS help before I go insane..

It's likely simple...

Bought a new APC Smart UPS model SUA750XL. Plugged it all in today.. thought I'd first shoot for the USB connection. Figured Win2K power options per their instructions. I start noticing about every 30 to 45 seconds my windows critical stop sound goes off along with a blip in my mouse cursor (looks like it might be my busy or working in background icon).. it does it three times fast.. then stops and does it can't 30 to 45 seconds later... Drives me insane of course.

So I backtrack.. use their Serial cable and configure Win2K power options as per their documentation. Everything works... but that dang sound and blip is still there.

So I install their own proprietary software, Power Chute Plus... same thing.

I turned the UPS off..plugged the PC into the wall and viola.. it stops..

What's working in the background that makes my critical stop sound go off like that and how can I use the dang thing without going more insane than I already am?

Any help is much appreciated.

Not having a real clue here PK but we have run into situations similiar to this, look in your CMOS-BIOS settings and shut off any of the things listed there that are related to the 2k and upc settings. Some of that is defaulted on or set on by the manufacturer...
While Windows will override it usually, some 3rd party things won't. Worth a shot gf. I always write down where and what I mess with in there so I can put it back or experiment.

I wondered about that but found it hard to believe that something would be checking that often. I'm too pooped to mess with it tonight... it's already 1:15 ...working off 2 hours sleep in the last 48.. and spent about 5 hours at our local big annual fair with 3 teenage boys. I'll try it tomorrow.

Thanks

Since you just bought it, maybe the batteries are not charged at all, your computer thinks that the battery will die any minute now, and so it tries saving all the data from the memory every 45 seconds to prevent data loss.

that's what I was thinking.... but the battery terminals should have been disconnected at purchase, so the battery should be fully charged and ready to go right out of the box....

hard to say....

yep.. it was charged when I got it. And after I set it up I let the PC run off it for a bit.. and then start a charge back up to make sure it did. Even when it got back to 100% it was still at it.
