Are plugin feeds still the way to go?

Yes feeds are good for keeping your surfers busy till your own next update, but it's important that the feeds have regular updates themselves. Like we do ;)

still there are big sites that have almost only feeds and are doing great.

I can always write posts for you and you can set them to publish later in Wordpress, that way you can have lots of unique content all the time. For less than $100 you can update your site every day for a month or every third day for 3 months!
