Best Place to Buy Individual Songs Online?

I've been using iTunes for awhile now but have heard the songs won't work on other MP3 players outside of the iPod. Is there any other site that sells individual songs that will allow me to keep the song and put it on any MP3 player?

I use napster, download all the songs I want for free, and can use them on most any MP3 player (except the ipod, lol).

I think it costs like $10 a month or something like that.

I'm more about subscription service than buying songs.

Yeah, I'm not much into subscription services as I don't really buy a lot of music. Not too many new artists peak my interest but I have a few songs I'm looking to pick up.

I still use iTunes most of the time. It's a gay extra step, but if you burn a purchased track to cd, you can then re-rip it from the disc as a standard mp3 file and the protection will be gone.

I was afraid of that. I wish they'd just allow you a different file at a higher price that can be played on anything.
