Actually my wife just put Mixed Up in the car stereo yesterday which I hadn't heard for ages and we ended up just driving around listening to it fairly loud because the previous couple of cd's doing the rotation for the last week just didn't hold a candle up to it when it came cracking on with it's 1990 synth beats lol.Comment

I'm not sure about Nickleback, but Trent Reznor definitely made an impact with NIN...
Pretty Hate Machine came out in 1989 (only five years after "How Soon Is Now"), and I still get goosebumps everytime I hear "Head Like A Hole", with it's lyric, "I'd rather die, than give you control".
And there is hardly a more visceral rock anthem than "Closer", with the lyric "I want to fuck you like an animal".
