Best Console Game Ever ?!?

Just got my XBOX and have been addicted to HALO.

So............ I got in an argument about the best console game the other day. Many people say HALO, but I'm biting my tongue.

Does every new generation of games spawn "Best Game Ever" or can one "Best Game Ever" actually be declared?

Dude, I seriously, it has to be Super Mario Bros. If you don't believe me, install an NES emulator and play it. I bet anybody would remember 80% of the tricks from way back when, where all the coins are, the star, shrooms, all that.

HALO is damn nice though, but I hate playing a FPS on a game controller. It's so WRONG. I can't wait for the FPS controllers to be released on the XBox, probably next year.

One trick I remember from SMB is the 99 men trick on level 1, board 3.

Right before the castle and sitting on the big stairway was a turtle that if you were able to jump on correctly and repeatedly, you could ring up 99 men.

MegaMan 2 rocked. It still does. I love the music in that game... it showed real talent to produce that stuff on such a limited system.

I think GT3 (not GTA3) is the best game out. Halo is probably pretty close, or may even be better - I cannot say because I have not played it enough. With a keyboard/mouse control, Halo would rock. Can't wait until it hits the PC.

Yeah, that's pretty fucking great too.. I have won everything in that game.. The concept 2002 paris-Tokio GT3 was a bit letdown, too little to do, I beated the game in 2 days while drinking, fun though.. even if it's said that you shouldn't drink and drive.

Holding the gun right up to the screen always worked nicely for me.

Super Mario 3 was the only game I ever obsessed over before GTA3. I used to love flying with that raccoon tail!

I owned only a few games for the NES. Super-C and Mario 3 were two of them... and maybe one more.

I beat Super-C without using any weapons or power ups and without using the 'ultra-fast-finger-button-pressing' technique to shoot faster, just my slow thumb, without losing one life! Fuck I kicked ass at that game.

I guess the NES set some standards man.

I'll take Halo over Contra though.

Halo is pretty much a FPS replica of the fun we used to have with Contra.

Games keep getting better and better, but I'll tell you the games I had the most fun playing in the past.

Street Fighter II Turbo - Super Nintendo

Night Trap - Sega CD

Resident Evil - Playstation

The best game of all time, would have to be 'Alien Vs Predator" on the Atari Jaguar. I doubt anyone played that game, but it kicks ass.
The Atari Jaguar was a 64-bit system that failed. It came out before the PS, and every game was shit, except for one.

Zelda for SNES.

I was obsessed with that game.

Almost as much as I was obsessed with Super Mario Kart for SNES.

Must get SNES emulator...

Phantasy Star 3 for the Sega Genesis, I was hooked on that game forever, it's probably my all time favorite RPG.

Metroid for the NES also tops my list, he he he.

Phantasy Star I for the Sega Master System was good too. First person dungeons were pretty cool for the time and pretty amazing for such a shitty console.

Just found this site. They've got all kinds of ROMS and just about every emulator out there for classic games, even Neo Geo.

No Nintendo though, probably for legal reasons.

the dumbest thing nintendo had when we first bought it was the activity pad you jumped up and down on. We had some track and field game. Took us about two hours to figure out that you could sit on the couch and just pound your feet up and down.

The robot that came with it was kind of cool but I am not sure if it actually worked.
