How do you spell blond(e)?

Firefox's built in spell checker tells me I'm wrong every time I write out blonde, but that's just how I'm used to spelling it and I think it's the more common way. I just hate seeing those red squiggles every time I spell it but I can't break the habit!

So... blonde or blond?

I heard someone say that blond is a guy and blonde is a girl. Not sure if that is correct. I guess it would be like fiance is a guy and fiancee is a girl. the latter having the accent mark

Writers of English will still distinguish between the masculine blond and the feminine blonde[2] and, as such, it is one of the few adjectives in English with separate masculine and feminine forms. However, many writers use only one of the spellings without regard to gender, and without a clear majority usage one way or another. The word is also often used as a noun to refer to a woman with blond hair, but some speakers see this usage as sexist[2] and reject it.

Generally "blond" if it deals with humans.

"Blonde" if it deals with a hue of beer.

Depends how I'm using it. If its a description and I'm tight for space I drop the E from the end. Most of the time tho I spell it "blonde" if I can get away with it. Damn description limits!

Adding an "e" at the end is for Euro fags. Americans don't waste time with unnecessary letters.

It's a cheque if it's worth anything or a check if it's in US dollars

In American English it is almost always blonde. Blond is fairly rare in American English. The only time I have seen it "blond" without the 'e' is sometimes on 80's and 90's old school gay porn movie titles, he he.

Both variations are correct, in all 3 words mentioned.

Blonde/blond -- http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/blonde

Cheque/Check - http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/cheque

Gray/grey ---- http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/gray

Saying all those variations are "correct" is overly simplistic. The variations both exist but that really conveys no information to the discussion. Most newspapers and other publications , as well as writing all over the internet and elsewhere tends to standardize on one usage or the other in different countries.

In the case of check vs cheque, that is in essence 100% divided between US usage and usage elsewhere in British English. In other word you will never really see "cheque" in the US anywhere and in England you would rarely see "check" to refer to a negotiable bank instrument.

Blond is MUCH more rarely used than blonde here in the US, probably by 95% to 5%. Gray is another word that is used more here in America rather than grey to refer to the color. But you will see 'grey' pop up in certain terms like to refer to types of horses and in other obscure uses.
