It's cheaper in the Sacramento area ! You can get an idea what the rent is if you go to sacbee.com

You can always try Nevada and be a few hours from Calif .

Too Freakin much. Everyone out here has a roommate. And houses run for so much it's like a far reaching dream. I want to move and I'm originally from here. I remember living in Maryland and paying $400 for rent. Now that rent is unheard of here. It's more like between $650-1200 for a one bedroom. Oh and don't even ask about square footage. Those rates are gonna get you 400-600 sq ft max!

Oh I forgot about the power company here, shit....unbelievable!

And the reason porn is so big out here, is because everyone is trying to make their apt or house payments. Oh I'm in San Diego by the way.

First off... let me explain about CA to you. You DO NOT want to be in Northern California... buncha farms and hippies up there. Move down to southern cal where the beaches are hot, waves are great and the chicks in bikinis are insane! Up in Nor Cal all the girls are hairy and have dreadlocks. Not to mention they are all rug munchers too!!! Rent up there is pretty much the same as down here in so cal. For a 2 bedm apt you will pay about 1,200/mo. If you want to buy, a decent home will run you about 500k. Hope this helps...

Depends. Big city-Small city- Rural
Big city rent is usually high to higher. Small city maybe as much as 50% less than big city. Rural about like small city. Many small cities you can rent a house for $400 and up depending on size and quality.
Big city more jobs available and usually higher pay. Cost of living offsets higher pay.

I once read that San Francisco has the highest per capita income but has less disposable money than a lower middle class per capita income in other areas of the State.

Depends on where you want to live. Near the cities where there's work to be had or within 20 miles or so of any beach, ridiculously expensive (unless you live in a bad neighborhood, where it's only quite expensive). But if you don't mind living 60 miles outside the city limits, where the biggest businesses are usually the production of crystal meth, you can still buy some houses for under 200 grand, and rent a one-bedroom apartment for under $700/month.

We live in a so-so area of LA, and even with an annual income of about $100K we're living in a smaller old house, driving older cars and can't afford any toys.

Oh and about the rug munchers.... Some of them are good but the ones up in Nor Ca are hairy and smelly.

in reno its about 800 for 1 bedroom

You obviously don't have a clue.

We hardly have any farms in Northern Calif., next to none!
You must live in Santa Ana then, cuz.. I lived in Newport, Costa Mesa, H.B. and Mission Viejo. $1200 on a 2 bedroom Apt. is a
dump!

Try about 1600-2500 for a nice/decent apartment.

REMEMBER LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!

Live by the beach, pay the price.. live in the ghetto.. save $

I got a 2 bedroom 1 bath, large fenced yard on a meadow in Lake Tahoe...for 725/month.

Of course you have to deal with 6 months of ideal snow conditions, and 6 months of perfect weather...and there's the tourist women...its a tough life...

Wow sounds expensive to live in Califronia. Someone said a decent home is around 500K! In Vancouver 500K can get you a decent house, but that is 500K Canadian.

Seems like cost of living is double what it is here...This with a lower minimum wage and no free medical in the US, how do people afford anything?

Is Maui expensive? Whats the average rent on 1 bedroom apt, close to the beach? (Say a 20 minute drive)

lol... a 20 minute drive is not close to the beach.....

depends on what you get though..... beach side, ON the beach.... you won't find an apartment. But you can buy a 1 bedroom condo for between $500k and $700k.... once you go across the street from the beach, that drops to anywhere from $150k to $400k for a 2 bedroom depending on what it is, how nice, etc...
you could rent a 2 bedroom apartment across the street from the beach on like, the 3rd floor, for between $1100 to $2200 a month.

Overall, rents aren't too bad here... considering where you're at. But they get ya on everything else... food is ridiculous expensive.... gas prices are insane.... everything is expensive here.

as you know, i'm in lake tahoe, i live 5 minutes from the beach one way and 5 minutes from the ski slopes the other way. it's tourist hell and it's hard to find a job but i have a 3 bedroom house for $650 a month with a hot tub, but i definitely had to shop around and got pretty lucky and put in my own hot tub. usually you'd pay about $1000 for that which is a lot cheaper than the bay or LA.

house prices around here start at $240k for a small 3 bedroom fixer-upper if you want to buy which is still pretty reasonable by california standards. the other advantage is you can also live in nevada and save thousands a year by not having to pay california taxes. Tahoe is just a fun, relaxing place to live, party, ski and boat just make sure you're self employed or have lots of money to spend cuz the average job makes less than $10/hour and there's always a reason to go out and spend money!

closest cities:
Reno - 1 hour
Sacramento - 2 hours
San Francisco - 3.5 hours
Los Angeles - 7 hours
San Diego - 8 hours

hope that helps any of you looking to relocate, i moved here from Massachusetts 5 years ago and totally love the town and it's great being in california....

oh and i used to live in quebec many many years ago and income taxes were well above 50% once you start making a decent wage, plus sales tax is about 15%. that's the price to pay for free medical care and other social services like cheap education, easy welfare, etc.

You can still live in L.A. decently for about $1000 a month for a 1 bedroom. The bay area costs more.

Man... I met a chick from LA in FLA and she seemed kinda stuck-up. Is that standard?

Yup. Actually the ones who live in LA - but aren't actually from there - are like that more often than the ones who grew up there. Most of the people that have that attitude hang out in Hollywood/Beverly Hills area and are normally from somewhere else.

The people from the surrounding non star studded areas are really cool regular folks.

I know it sounds strange but that's the way that town is. It really rub off on some people and changes them.

Not to mention they are all rug munchers too!!! Rent up there is pretty much the same as down here in so cal. For a 2 bedm apt you will pay about 1,200/mo. If you want to buy, a decent home will run you about 500k. Hope this helps...

Yeah, tell that to Eddie Murphy who lives about 40 minutes from my house in North Calif..... Ummm across the street and down 5 houses from me is a huge PLACE a former 49 er use to own LOL

Excuse me ,I need to go shave my hairy armpits and wash my dreadlock..

Yes, if you're stupid enough to not incorporate.
